Naked Neck/Turken Thread

One of my chicks was slow getting out of the cage I keep them in a night. Finally jumped out but moved slowly and didnt want to get to the day pen. Picked it up and brought it inside to my washingbator and put in food and water under a lamp. Will keep watch. Others doing fine. Updated it died at 1030am. Took photo to document. Buried in field. Sad was my favorite I named Truffle.

Sorry. I had one this week in the 3 week olds who started having failure to thrive issues, then balance/walking issues. I isolated her w/ extra food/water/heat for a day w/o improvements. I had to cull her. She was one I had my eye on b/c she had a pea comb. (in my flock a likely green egg layer)

Got another NN staying near the lamp so I might move it inside tonight to watch. Daughter said it got cold after I went to bed and the light got turned on late so maybe cold? Cooler today so will keep light on tonight. Need to find an outdoor thermometer. Hard to find here. Might ask a friend to bring me a few from outside country.

Awesome unique and amazing that Rudy is.... Only a mother could think that "that" view is totally adorable It is after all the "fluffiness of the butt " that makes chicks so adorable.... On a more serious note..... I wonder how breeding would be for a pair of them. No feathers to get in the way for sure, but the hens' backs would need protection, and does the cockerel not need feathered wings to balance? I see AI in their future :sick

I was telling someone recently if anyone had told me 2 years ago that I might be contemplating "hand" collecting and transferring chicken dna, I would have thought them insane.

I'm starting a showgirl project. I have a of silkie roo and a cockerel that will probably be able to breed later this year plus a naked neck hen and pullet. Anybody have any advice?

Start with nice Silkies ; ) Then just keep breeding the Naked Necks with the best Silkie characteristics back to your nicest Silkies. The first generation you will only get regular feathered (not silkie feathered) chicks. The silkie feathered chicks will come the 2nd generation.
Good luck! Naked Neck Silkies are adorable : )

Well, the mature silkie I have is hatchery quality but he's non bearded so I think he'll go well with my NN girls while the cockerel I have is show and bearded.
