Here you go, not much of a comb to speak of.

Based upon his 'muff', he's not pure but that shouldn't matter to many. Except for our Show Project, we are not going to have any straight combs here so he would be fine our meat project....you just live too far away. It would be interesting 'new genes' for me to play with though.

As for price, I would never price someone else's birds but if he is healthy and disease-free, for my purposes, I'd be willing to pay $20 or 25 bucks for him. Others might pay more and still others...less.

Ok, what would I advertise him as? A meat project bird? If I put it that way wouldn't most people think to eat him, not his progeny?

I don't know what others would think but if I had him, I'd cover a few Dark Cornish hens with him.

As for advertising him, you are already are doing a pretty good job. lol

Kev could and would likely help you with his color and simply state his specifications...weight,

age, comb-type and a price of $25 or 30 bucks...giving a prospect room to dicker.

I'm still not out of the running...just hate to bring in a single youngster right now...

but I've done crazier things. lolol

Hellbender, I like this comb on NN. I also like to have almost no waddles kind of like a shamo. I think NN look funny with big combs and all that stuff hanging off. Do you have any pics of your birds?

He has a rose comb.

From the coloring and type, I would guess he is out of a cross between either gold laced or blue laced red wyandotte with a black NN.

Wyandotte crosses/mixes usually give birds with a rather pleasing body type(to my eyes at least- I do think this rooster will mature out into a very handsome rooster).

I couldn't comment on price.. could use his rose comb as selling point in colder climates- less risk of frostbitten comb?

Also his rose comb is pretty flat(no spikes), perhaps the wyandotte parent was from nice show stock- they like for their combs to be smooth....

Agreed on good job on advertising him and you're giving great answers also.

Using him over Cornish would rapidly bring out lacing, double lacing or pencilling in the offspring. He already has some of the necessary genes for lacing.... perhaps someone would grab him to start on a line of laced NN..?

He has a funky peacomb.. which is also why he has almost no wattles.

Bringing pea and rose comb into NN would be a great way to get clean headed birds.. this will create walnut/cushion combed birds with little or no wattles with either very flat or slightly mounded combs.

as for my personal taste- I like all comb types, as long as they have right proportions.. for example, a single comb looks nicer if they have five even points and the comb follows the skull.

One thing I personally cannot stand at all- silly as it is- are wattles with a fold between the main wattle body and the skull.. That just makes me shudder.. lol
