Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Well my two broodies aren't playing well together, Qtip tried to kill the other broody's chick. So we will have to do a make shift separation in the pen. The hen is great w/ the naked chick however it doesn't seem to be able to stay warm enough. I had Gary pick up an infant's sock on his way home, going to try making a sock outfit for her and see if she can stay warm enough that way, if not I'll have to brood her in the house by herself

How many chicks your broodies have? If they don't have many you can let the good one to brood them.

This will maybe sound stupid, but how do you know your chicks can't stay warm enough?

Thank you Kassaundra. It is probably true of my other pullets as well.....just not used to seeing so much of a bird's naked face.

Well, how bout poor Kassundra...think about how much of the other crinkled red end of a chicken she has to look at!

Aww. What are your day and night time temps?

With a hen that actively rejects stranger chicks, I would worry about how she would react to the naked with a sock on?

It's not unusual for face to get redder.
Is she black with brown around her neck and head? That is typical hen colouring.

That is correct. A boy in that color would have a lot of red feathers on back and wing areas.

I'm finally posting pics of my babies. Here they are at a week old.

The first bunch are from Legbar hens.



Two of the black ones are black copper Marans, and the other one is from a Black Araucana. I think it is rumpless, too!

Thank you, I really like naked necks and especialy ones with Fm gene.

My grandmother's rooster will be a father of my chickens that I will get this year. I will try to get some more pics of him and other naked necks that she has, but two of the roosters she has are very territorial.
