Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Got 19 eggs from a friend. Marans, OE, Silkie and EE, all covered by a frizzled NN rooster! So, 16 have hatched so far. 6 are NNs. 2 from the Marans, 1 OE, 2 EE and 1 Silkie. They are not very colorful....mostly black and blues,, but their eggs should be colorful. The rooster came from a blue egg layer and has a pea comb, so hopefully carries the blue egg shell gene!

I have some very sad (to me) news today. I just found Frick (Miss Priss) dead in the run. He was fine this morning active and full of attitude. I know he ate well b/c his crop was full of fermented grains (and we just put that out this morning), not a mark on him, neck was intact so not broken, the other 3 in the group were fine. I have no clue what happened.

That is bad new for all of us, just like for you. Poor thing. He was such a cutie. I don't know what happened to him, I have no idea.

So sorry. I had a few hens over the year, just die. Fine one minute, dead the next. My friends rooster was all active one day, went to bed on the roost with his girls and they found him dead on the roost the next morning. Just died in his sleep. Young rooster, too! Just sad.
