Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I do the same thing as @chickengr...2-3 days maximum soak/fermentation time. The feed I buy is corn-free, soy-free and and canola-free and uses fish meal as the primary source of protein, and spring peas as the secondary. That fish meal REALLY stinks after day 3 and even the chickens turn up their beaks at it.

@chickengr Good luck with your broody hatch!!!! So exciting!!! And I can empathize with the rat problem. The pack rats have found my aquaponics setup and the little buggers are eating my produce.

sorry to hear that. any solution for rats? they are so bloody smart, they don't go near traps. I obviously cannot use any poison near my chickens.

Remove food source and bait traps with peanut butter.
I ran into my old pest guy at TSC the other day (he was REALLY good - but he hurt his back and had to retire from that profession). He told me that you just need to put out scrambled eggs - they over eat them/gorge, not knowing when to stop, and in his words, "blow up". I haven't tried it, but it's an interesting solution.

i have heard same with soda pop. I think the reasoning is that they don't burp so the gas builds and pressure hurts organs. Didn't know scrambled eggs made gas build but we all know boiled eggs do!

I couldn't tell if he meant gas or if they just didn't know how to stop eating and ate themselves to death... Who knows...

Good afternoon all, I've not tried the scrambled eggs but I will.

What I've come up with is using One Bite as a bait on the rat trap. Now One Bite is extremely poisonous and I don't want rats leaving with the bait and poisoning anything else so my wife has sewn small bags of meshing. We used a gallon paint strainer to make them. Using latex gloves I've zipped tied these bags with One Bite onto the trap trip plate. Make sure it's secure. I have not lost a bait bag yet and I've caught 3 rats on the same bait bag in the last 3 months. Peanut butter did not work.
Also because rats will sometimes leave with the trap I've screwed the trap to a shelf where I've seen them traveling. If anyone is interested I can get pictures before and after. :lau

I've heard i scrambled egg with 3-4 aspirin ground up in it. Its' SUPPOSED to work like regular rat poison but without the risk of secondary poisonings. It is supposed to make them bleed internally.

Of course if it works on rats it would likely work on birds as well so if I ever try it I will use a bait box and keep it away from the chickens and other animals.

Do these look like the same color? I'm not really color blind but sometimes I don't think my eyes pick up the same colors as others.
