Naked Neck/Turken Thread

What i m looking for its mottled (black and white)i really want hatching eggs , chicks or adult bird, but i cant find anywhere, mottled naked neck ( black and white) are my favourite chickens

Kev, I wasn't actually asking for color, I was wondeeing if I could get black mottled birds with that part fm, dark red skin tone..

Probably not. it seems effects of pigment dilutors are generally stronger on the body skin than on the legs. Example recent pic of my paint showing tinted legs, that is from Fm trying to show through despite being barred and having Id. as far as I can see, their body skin is totally clear.

Some of old Fm barred project birds had normal skin except for a very crisp and well defined tiny black spots on their body. Some of the chicks would have patchy skin- pink with usually grey, rarely black spots but that always turned to a even and lighter color as they grew.

So with mottle I suspect it probably is similar as it is used to clear the skin color in meat lines....

Some Fm birds with Id hatched normal skinned but during juvenile stage while their skin is still really thin, you can make out pigmented bones and trachea parts, kind of like a fuzzy x-ray. I think this is more evidence of those kind of genes being too good at clearing the body skin to make it possible for creating patchy skinned Fm... however if I continue my paint line, perhaps I will find out one way or another since Fm is already in there.

Well did a small reduction in the baby chicks. Down to 34, got rid of 10 cockerels.

There are still a few more ( but decided to hold another week, sometimes they change on you). Possibly another 6 or 7. That should still leave me around 25 to 30 good pullets. There are a couple of them I'll keep regardless of sex. Projects.

In my opinion, svart honas are way more beautiful then cemani. Is there any other difference other then body type?

I saw pics of svart honas and would like to get some. unfortunately they don't exist in greece. can you find them in croatia?

ayam cemani is not a good layer that's why I am not interested in. they say that svart honas are good layers. makes a big difference to me.

No, no svart honas or ayam cemani. Maybe in Germany, but I wouldn't go there for couple of hens that cost fortune. At least for now.

I personally don't like the look of cemani, but svart honas are gorgeous!

Can you get some other, not so common breeds there? Here you can find just brahmas, cochins, RIR, australorp, leghorns, SL wyandottes, light sussex, marans, plymouth rocks and faverolles. Other breedss rarely exsist and are very, very expensive.

Rare breeds are getting more common here in the US. I know two people I can get Cemani hatching eggs from from for half what they go for and culls (pink toes, mulberry comb) still very fm, cheap. The more common they get the cheaper they get. I passed up young breeding quad of Cemanis for $200. Quit a few with Appenzeller Spitzhauben, boy are they super pretty.
I thought about getting Bresse for a meat bird, or Barbezieux, then read the naked neck is the #1 best tasting chicken, soo I got naked necks. And they're cooler than the other two anyway

That's what I thought too. So, my guess is that Greenfire played a huge rule in bringing these breeds to USA. Am I right, seems like you didn't have them few years ago, especially not that cheap.

besides those you mentioned there are some pure transylvanian neck, araucana, ameraucana, brakel, hamburg, polish, orpingtons, ayam cemani, some oriental game breeds, minorca, andalusian, white face spanish, silkie, etc. I was thinking to keep NNs and marans only but as I also have an araucana and orpington cockerel I will put 1 araucana girl with the araucana boy and I am getting 2 orpington pullets as well. already have 3 marans males. I will always have a big mixed flock for fun and eggs and I will breed NNs with my araucana and marans.

You can get ameraucanas?!? They are my number 1 favourite breed.

Seems like you have quite a lot chickens, how many exactly?

@Kev and @Kassaundra, black skinned ameraucanas-shouldn't be hard to get, right?

Pretty much anything GreenFire has or had is available. The more people breeding those breeds the lower in cost they get. There was recently someone on our state thread trying to get rid of a young breeding trio of Marsh Daisy's for $60 on Craig's List, no takers. I told him he was messing up, should've explained how rare they were and asked for a couple hundred $, might have sold them IDK, Lol!
Pretty much any of the many breeds we have had here in the US is still available from hatcheries, and some much better quality from breeders.
Sand Hill Preservation Center has quite a few rare breeds also, I had a Manx Rumpy and a bunch of Red Sussex for packing peanuts when I ordered my white Jersey Giants from them.
I was looking forward to keeping the Sussex, I know of only one other place that has the red variety and these were beautiful. They grew fast, but didn't get very meaty, lay great, but small eggs...So I ate the two roosters and the hens will go sometime.
Giving the naked necks a try now, heard nothing but good stuff on them.
