We'll be busy behind the circle saw for weeks to come.

Gosh, this makes me tired just reading it!!!! I can't deal with that many projects - I already have way too many chickens than I technically should (though it's generally not enforced, I don't like the idea of pushing my luck).

Trying to keep it simpler. If I want to make true progress with the GNH/NN thing, I think I need to focus.

I have 2 Nn girls with my marans and 2 Nn with my araucanas. I hope to hatch some and get dark and green layer Nn chicks.

I also plan to raise marans, bcm and cuckoo and I have green eggers with them all the time so I hope to get some olive eggers as well.

I am very short of space, my 2 coops are just about 2 m from my porch and the 2 new ones are next to my car, about 2/3 of my previous vegetable garden I had to give up due to hot summers. I kept 1/3 of the garden and planted 3 trees (almond, nectarine and banana), 1 grapevine and 2 blackberries, planning to plant some ribes at the edges as well hoping to survive next summer. all of these have been planted next to fence so I can grow vegetables in the middle. I hope these trees will grow enough to make some shade for the veggies and keep the temperatures down. in my big run I have a big orange tree, planted a peach tree 2 years ago, a walnut and fig tree last year, a blood orange, clementine and pomegranate this year. I hope they will grow well so that my chickens will have plenty of shade next summer.

@Fire Ant Farm your splash marans is gorgeous!

it would be so exciting if the SG NN are broiler size.. imagine this cross with the GNH? gorgeous huge birds...
I know, right?! Trying not to get my hopes up, but I'm very excited.

Thank you! He's also pretty big - bigger than his other marans siblings (now in the freezer) and kept pace with the GNH for quite a while, weight-wise (even outweighed them at one point). I didn't plan to keep any marans, but he was too impressive to cull. I just need to figure out what to do with him. He needs girls - he's not the type to be a quiet bachelor...

Hi there. I'm a turken aficionado with a very mixed mostly elderly poultry flock and am down to my last large fowl turken hen (surprisingly my original 7 year old turken is the only survivor).

I'm looking for some turken eggs to hatch - would take now but looking more in a month or so to do the NYD hatch, preferably. While I have a large incubator space I'm not looking for a large amount of eggs, maybe 6 to 12 eggs. I'd prefer large fowl to banty or showgirl (I also have one showgirl and she's a very needy little thing [that I love]). I would prefer mixed colors to all one color (I like to be able to tell my birds apart) and egg color doesn't matter.

I do process my extra roosters, if that matters to anyone their fate. They have a good life prior to that moment, though.

Is anyone selling or will be selling around that time?

I know, right? I'm trying to trim down my projects as well...focusing mainly on my meat birds. Since even my meatiest NN girls are proving to be really outstanding layers, I've decided to focus less on my egg laying group, and developing the white NNs may also just happen naturally as part of my breeding for meaties.

Did I mention that we also have a new puppy? Yeah...a surprise from my husband for our anniversary. He's an adorable German Shepherd, but so far he's cost us a small fortune in vet bills thanks to being infected with a parasitic load that he shared with one of my existing dogs. AND, now they appear to have picked up some kind of virus that I'm treating.

At least our weather has finally improved. I was so tired of 90+ degrees in the daytime.

My plans and projects are few and simple. A laying group I am mostly interested in the darkest fm birds pretty feathers are a plus. (NN of course). The meat group, nakeds and cx, but still waiting on those stingy cx girls to start laying.

you have the most beautiful fm birds. Shame on the cx for not laying rows of eggs for ya. the one cx pullet I did was not a good layer either. I don;t understand why others are saying theirs are great layers?

Thanks. I had a deep convo w/ myself about my true chicken love and lack of ability to do multiple "projects" so what was absolutely most important to me and kept coming back to fm. And really wanting to see if I can get the naked meat bird project off the ground so that is what I've settled on.
