Naked Neck/Turken Thread

do you know of someone who has done this or something similar?

I can't say that I have. The WFBS are high on my list of breeds that I'm interested in preserving. From what I understand the white face doesn't come through on the F1 offspring but does on some F2's and on F1's crossed back onto a WFBS. While I haven't read anything on the exact workings on the white face it does seem to behave like a recessive and is undoubtedly a polygenetic trait.

Yeah.... Moderation! I need to learn moderation!!!

I truly believe that "moderation" is HIGHLY overrated.

I went to the big local poultry show at the fairgrounds today and was sad to see that not a single NN Turken was anywhere to be seen. There was a greater variety of breeds this year, but large fowls in general were not as well represented this year as in years past, and little bantams, especially Seramas and Silkies, were everywhere.

So...right now, along with all of my breeding plans, I giving serious thought to showing some birds next year. I haven't a clue how to go about it, but I've bookmarked a few websites on the topic and have a whole year to figure things out. It's high time the NN gets the recognition it deserves. My buffs continue to show too much silver, and my reds seems a bit pale, so I may try to focus on black and white...and I've REALLLY been wanting some whites.

And, I may have to show my Silver Grey Dorkings too. These little SGD chicks are charming the pants off of me!

I am friends with a guy on Facebook that is working on a white faced fibro bird.He started with silkies and wfbs.Don't know how far long he is in the project. He posted pics of birds that did not have the polydactyl feet.He lives about 45 mins.to an hour from me and I am hoping to get a white faced fibro bird from him to breed into my fibro naked necks.

Oh wow, I wanna see!

btw I have often wondered why isn't naked neck used more often in the fibro breeds.. they make the black skin such a huge deal but then hide most of the skin from view... Until butchering that is, lol

Yesterday was the 1 week old weigh-in for my latest hatch and I'm very pleased with my lone NN chick.
It hatched at 1.45 ounces and now weighs 3.28 ounces for a 126% increase. I still have no idea of the gender. Most of the chicks I've hatched with heavy eyeliner have been pullets, but this little chick's shanks are quite thick and that growth is pretty strong. I've only had NN chicks get this big this quickly in my very first flock, and surprisingly, they all turned out to be females.

It's feathering out very dark, somewhat unusual for this chick down color. It also seems to be showing vague traces of barring?

I also like chicks that grow out chunkier. It makes them look cute but also hope it means the chick will grow up with a good weight to it.

You're right about the barring. Daddy is my buff barred/crele boy, Simon.

Mom is my big girl, Willa, who's parents may both have carried the barring gene. (Recessive white White Rock hen and my former rooster, Shiloh, which I think also carried the barring gene.)

I think I may have lucked out on some barring on my favorite little boy! What do you think??

Here's some others of the gang;

I am not an expert, but cute little birds anyway.

why do you think it is a boy? I can see big feet but my jumbo had big feet too. I even named her jumbo as I wasn't sure for long what she was and I didn't feel like changing name.
