Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Just wanted to say something to you guys.

Some of you probably know that I don't have any predators here except rats and foxes that started to show up last year.

Well some very smart people got me really disapointed and miserable feeling. Now not only I am concerned about my chickens, but also about kids, pets and everybody actually.

They let coyotes out to nearby woods...
Now they have come into the woods behind my house.

Tonight was the first time I heard something like that. It was non the less scary. It was something we could only hear on tv and films and now it is happening right next to us. Our dogs are all crazy because of this and bark all night and don't sleep. Just like us.

Just wanted to share this very disturbing thing that happend to us lately.
Coyotes are the worst because they aren't afraid of people. I leave a radio on in the barn to try to scare them off. It works sometimes, but I still lost a rooster to a coyote last summer right next to where the radio was playing. One of my friends had a small red light that flashes every couple of seconds. She says it keeps the predators away (coyotes, raccoons, opossums). You can also try fences. Our coyotes are on a routine and usually hunt in the morning before 10 a.m. Due to this, we keep the chickens in the coop until noon and have had good luck with that schedule.

I'm sorry you now have coyotes. The good news is that apparently the foxes and coyotes don't live well together so one of them will stay and the other will likely disappear, so you'll only have to worry about one of them. Good luck!

Beautiful birds! And yes, Switch looks a lot like your BAM - is she black all over her body except that edging in the front/neck and her red head? That's like Switch.

Yes, she's black everywhere except along her front from head to end of keel. The red-edged feathers are most heavily marked on her head and bowtie and barely visible near the end of the keel.

There would be eggs falling into my incubator if the %#*$ girls that I wanted to hatch from were laying.

That describes a birchen hen very well.

Well she may have to visit with a BCM male then. In the meantime she's slated to go in a pen with a Blue Ameraucana male.

Wookie, the black tailed red, will be going in with the Blue Jubilee English Orp to start a red Mille Fleur NN project.
