Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thanks all, but there is not much I can do about it except keeping my flock save.

@Kev I really don't know anymore.
When I type in jackal-they are a lot smaller and more fox like to me- actually I can't find the exact translate in english.

If they are some kind of jackal or something-could it be that I saw one the other day instead of fox like I said?!? This just crossed my mind. Like@ForrestGump said, they are not afraid of people. Whatever it was it was in shed on 2 meters high pile of wood.

I tried using the biological name just now, Canis aureus .

Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_jackal

Learned something new, there is a sub species called European jackal Canis aureus moreoticus

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_jackal

Does this help? Some pictures of them look coyote-like... something else new, they are fully fertile with dogs and wolves. In eastern US there is a new animal, usually called "eastern coyote" they are a mix of coyote, wolf and dog. They run bigger than western coyotes and apparently the dog genes help them be more flexible around humans....

It's definitely the European, not the Golden one. I didn't knew they could breed with dogs and wolves.

I get to meet Neil Degrasse Tyson a couple weeks from now - I'll ask him. But I think it's the eggs...

are you serious????? He is Awesome!

you could be part of massive upending of Gravitational Theory... revolutionize space travel- build an incubator on Mars, place fertile eggs on spaceship.. ecological friendly zoom!

Yup! I have primo seats when he's coming here January 19 for a talk/"event". I get to meet him afterwards (though I'll probably just shake his hand and say "Duh..."). But I'm SUPER stoked!!! I'll have to propose the egg gravitation theory to him...

Just wanted to say something to you guys.

Some of you probably know that I don't have any predators here except rats and foxes that started to show up last year.

Well some very smart people got me really disapointed and miserable feeling. Now not only I am concerned about my chickens, but also about kids, pets and everybody actually.

They let coyotes out to nearby woods...
Now they have come into the woods behind my house.

Tonight was the first time I heard something like that. It was non the less scary. It was something we could only hear on tv and films and now it is happening right next to us. Our dogs are all crazy because of this and bark all night and don't sleep. Just like us.

Just wanted to share this very disturbing thing that happend to us lately.

Well that just sucks! I'm going to refrain from saying everything that comes to mind on the matter, but for what it's worth I can empathize with your frustration.

Which has stronger gravitational force- black holes or the force between an egg and an incubator...?

Well this one's a no-brainer for sure. Even when I don't have eggs in the incubator I find myself drawn to the darn thing as it beckons to be filled once again......

What do they sound like? Coyotes have a very distinctive ululating 'bark' that sounds reminiscent of human laughter. I can't tell you how many times we've thought there were people crossing our property only to discover a pack of coyotes closing in instead.

I weighed Andres and Lenny today for the 8 week weigh-in. Andres weighed in at 2.6 lbs and Lenny was right behind him at 2.58 lbs. Not bad!!! And Andres is showing some interesting blue/silver blue/gold lacing on his breast and wing feathers. I really never expected that.

Those aren't bad numbers at all! I'm already obsessed with his barring! :)

I feel like since I had to pick up a bag of feed with lesser protein last time took a trip to the feed store, we've seen a "stunting" of growth in our pens, specifically our NN/CCLB pen. Tomorrow we're running back out and getting another bag of feed at the feed store that know what they're doing. Definitely not satisfied with this.

You could always try supplementing the lower protein feed with cooked egg or other protein sources. My birds go absolutely nuts for some of my extra eggs either hard-boiled or scrambled.
