Naked Neck/Turken Thread

keep in mind this will throw only 25% mottled. a real issue if only small batches are set.   also not all of the non mottleds will be carriers from the cockerel-pullet cross.  combine that with small numbers of chicks, a bit risky.

it is a good way to increase traits not related to mottling,  productivity or size though, but still best with more than less samples to choose from.

also just realized the hen does not have the black bar by the mottle..  that might be unusual as it seems there is a tendency for the black bar to be present(mille fleur is an example of mottle with the black bar)

I wanted to say something more but couldn't remember at the moment and that was it, you said it.

So what do you mean lack of the black bar could mean?

Poor thing was getting picked on by the others... first day out on the yard. She had been with a silkie..she stays by the sillies pen a lot now. At night when I go out to put chicks go bed, she hears my voice and comes running. I am still putting her up on a roost at night. She is so cute!

@DesertChic I think that you should actually breed her with two roosters-but to keep it more minimal- I would still breed one of her sons to her along with pullets that you hatch from other rooster.

And I would choose a solid colored rooster B/B/S or white so you get more colour variety. Since she is pretty orange and if bred with other roosters that are orange you will get just buff birds with some blue or black on them like tail feathers.

I really got into this- maybe I can make some of my wishes and dreams in your yard without you even knowing it.

I'm rather limited right now on the mature NN roosters available to her, so I'm not sure how much color variety I'll be able to get. I still have Heisenberg, but she's never favored him even though she chose to be housed with him and his favorite girls for months. Peta is the only other option for now. This is a terrible photo of him, but you'll get the idea of his coloring:

Peta's still got a lot of red and gold in him, but also a lot of blue...and feathered shanks.

And here's Heisenberg, in case you can't remember what he looks like:

Oooh! Heisenberg is gorgeous! Any idea what the mature weights on your roos are?

Thank you! Over the past two years I've been breeding for increased growth rates and size, so Heisenberg is actually one of my smaller roosters, weighing in 9.5 lbs the last time I checked and he's over 2 years old now. He's heavier than he looks in photos because he's tightly feathered.

Zazzle is also a bit smaller at 9 lbs but some of his sons are looking very promising for greater size, and Peta weighed in at 10 lbs last I checked, and he's still growing. Peta was a late bloomer and originally on my cull list, but as I butchered more and more of the other boys in the bachelor pad he really took off in growth and size. His father was over 11 lbs.

she looks a bit like my laura, the only surviver of my 1st NNs. her tail feathers couldn't grow due to a bunch of peckers so I moved her to my cuckoo marans cockerel and some different breeds pullets. her tail feathers are growing and she is so happy with them that she is not trying to go back to her old flock. I hope to hatch some dark layers from them.
