I am giving the white one to a relative for her Bday. I think the white one is a NN×Maran×Icelandic.

Beautiful hen! Wow awesome birthday gift, your friend is very lucky to have gotten on your gift list.

HI, all! My main home computer died this weekend (hard drive broken - getting replaced now). I have a laptop, but my system for posting and keeping up with BYC has been sort of disrupted (along with tons of stuff to do). But, Kassaundra, beautiful photos, Desert Chick, I think ALL your boys are in love with you, cute babies being posted, and love hearing of all the crossing plans.

I wanted to pop on quickly with the 4 week S&G NN weights. (I keep forgetting to specify, but in case anyone doesn't know "S&G NNs" are just a line of broiler NNs that were famed to be really big - S&G Hatchery got out of them and sold their stock to Dunlap, and I got some.)

The ones that aren't stunted (by either genetics or the horrible shipping experience) are huge, and two are neck and neck with each other at 20.95 oz at 4 weeks, even a little over what Tank weighed at FIVE weeks! I sorta just want to name them all "Brick" - like "Brick 57", etc. They feel like they're made of lead, because they are so much heavier than they look. I THINK I have guesses for gender, but am not sure because they are feathering in slowly and it seems that their comb development is also slow compared to size. But if I'm right, there are some BIG girls in here who are over a pound at 4 weeks.

No time to fix the graph yet, but the table is pretty self explanatory. @Kev

Oh, and I realized that I had been too aggressive in turning the heat down for their heat source - they "looked" so big, and are indoors, but are feathering out slowly. The big ones don't care, but I think that was why the little ones were looking unhappy - turned it back up a little, and the wee ones are content. So, nobody's sick (thank goodness!!!)

(#63 is not only extraordinarily small at 6.38oz at 4 weeks, the head shape looks wrong, and I think it may be "not right" - I had a chick like that once before. The other smaller ones are just small, not unhealthy that I can tell.)

Whenever I can carve out the time, I have a lot more to post. I got photos of all 25 of the Aloha chicks and now that they are almost all feathered out at 5 weeks, they are SOOOOOOO lovely! I separated them into a boy brooder and a girl brooder (best guesses), and they are calmer and happier (more room, less harassment). Puppy/Snape and Goodwin/Arbequina's chicks (from my second hatch - Khan's hatch) are doing well - one of the big dark boys is now BIGGER than Khan. Part of why I've been so busy is I'm constructing their tractor - should be done in a day or so. They are ready to go outside yesterday... As soon as I finish, I start on the NEXT set of housing. (I'm so tired!!!!!

OK, gotta go get some apple trees planted STAT before it gets any hotter...

I don't really know how big chicks usually are, but judging by reactions of you and everybody else, they are very big! So glad you got them. Would love to see photos of Goodwin's and Snape's chicks if possible too. You have a very busy spring (at least here is spring where I live) it seems to me that you count around 100 chicks or very close to it.

Still don't think the black one is a girl? This Nn one not the non-naked neck.
I am nearly positive she is a girl now. I only thought she was a boy b/c if she was birchen (like I thought) she had way to much white to be a female. Since she obviously is not birchen I now think she is a girl.
