Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Not a great picture, but Its the best I could get. Do these look more like rooster or hen saddle feathers?

I have a mystery brown egg laying pullet and the only brown egg layers I have are my turkens, which I thought were both males

Rooster, a hen's isn't long and pointy like that.

It's too early for roo saddle feathers yet. The combs and wattles will tell you before the feathers will.

100% boy.

my opinion, of course.

Rats. Is it possible a hen could be 2x the size of a male for the same age and group? The other might have rounder feathers.

are they the same breed? with mixed breeds you never know. if they are pure, same breed than males should be bigger. although I had a huge marans pullet and a tiny cockerel a few years ago.

How old then are saddle feathers? These are definitely pointed and I'm expecting crows any day. I have bantams a month older crowing up storms

It depends on the bird. 4 to 6 months but before then they've got large combs and wattles that are pinker than the girls.

I know wattles and combs come first but I don't have girls to compare to. People keep saying they're male's but they're the only bird I have this age that lay brown eggs and I'm getting brown pullet eggs. I'm just trying to figure out if I have one that's a girl hiding out. My one definitely has pointed saddle feathers when I look closer at him, so maybe he's a young developer.

Happy Tooshy Tuesday!!! :plbb :love
