Naked Neck/Turken Thread

That's exciting! Did you backcross to Spitzhauben to try to get spangling back?

nope--beginners luck on the original cross. almost every chick was spangled. about half were naked necks. one of the nn chicks also got the appenzeller horns at the top of her comb.

Kev, this is my polish nn cross. I have crossed her with many different roos. she is the mom of both the frizzles a couple pages back. I have a genetic question for you. her chicks are almost always the color of the roo. they also have the features of the roo. beard, muff, crest, skin color. Is this unusual?

You have me thinking of taking a back Turken to my delaware girls!

That's great, glad I mentioned Delawares... worked out perfect for you! Keep in mind, turken roo x del hens only the boy chicks will be barred. You just need one barred naked necked boy to continue for the second generation. Could very easily make sort of 'naked necked dels' that way too.

Are your del girls big and lay huge eggs?

So you're playing with the NN gene and other genes, that's awesome. Fun isn't it?

As for your question, it probably is coincidence. If the genes your roosters had were dominant genes and/or roo were pure for said genes, that would be the explanation. For example, crest, beard/muff are both dominant genes(actually more like "dominant, but variable in how it shows in the crosses"). This girl lacks the beard/muff so what you're seeing in the case of beard/muffs is more like a "bearded roo x non-bearded hen" cross.. the results would have been overall the same if the sex of parents reversed, non-bearded roo x bearded hen would have produced bearded chicks.

Skin color is slightly trickier because the black skin is dominant but it is affected by unrelated genes(barring, Id<causes white/yellow legs in most non-barred birds>, even some feather colors, etc). In a non complicated cross, black skin x non-black skin will throw black skin chicks no matter what parent is which.

Pic of those? Also happen to have done a 'regular turken' x appenzeller cross? Interested in appearance of Spitz crest on a naked neck... their crest supposedly are different from Polish crests, right? (agree with Lisa that's an exciting cross!)

Yes they are pretty big - one of my girls oddly her eggs are not huge but she lays so well - the others lay big eggs yes - and i get many different colors of eggs from the m from brown to a pinkish tan

I am really happy that you guys like my birds.

thankyou. davlyn--the birds in the photo are not related to yours at all. they are about 4 months old. they are my new breeding stock for next year so at some point I will have chicks from them. the mom of yours is a pure white crested blue bantam polish and the dad was a white showgirl rooster. the black skin comes from dad.

Ok.. very beautiful birds. I got a2 pic's of my grand girl Kora with the girls. I'll have 2 get them up later 2day. I am looking for more. I would love a buff laced polish~~ I would love a cross thats a blue egg layer. My sweet honey bambi EE banty is broody most of the time so she doesn't lay much.
