Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Aoxa They are gorgeous. Nava is wanting to have a buff strain. Plus she is entering hers in competition and has yet to post about the results.

I hope that your winter is trauma free since last year was so awful. How is the weather up there so far ?
I hope so too flower.. This entire year has been terrible for the most part. Recently lost my first dog Koda who was chasing a skunk off our property and got hit by a car (killed instantly). On top of that, the fire, and another cat killed by the road.. We had a lot of hawk attacks this fall too and lost roughly 10 chicks and juveniles to the darn thing. That's just mentioning the issues with our animals.. We had a flood in our basement (ruined a lot of our furniture we had stored until my inlaws moved out)..

Life likes to kick you when you're down. Hoping 2014 proves to be much better.

I did get married this year, so there's that ;) Also trained Henry with the chickens (WIN!)

I don't let any of these things get me down too much though.

Love the video! Question: How is it that you have so many chickens and still have so much grass! My 19 chickens have eaten every blade of grass, every flower and hosta I had!

I was wondering the same thing. only thing left here is trees over 6'tall.

and I have to put fence around them to keep the geese from eating them.

I have had 25+ chickens (sometimes way plus) on approx. 1/3 acre for 3 ish years and have green grass in abundance everywhere. The only area devoid of grass in just outside the coop on the pop door side.

My chickens must be part cow then because what they haven't scratched up they have eaten.

Chickens would rather walk up to your door and leave their KAKA right there ! Nah it looks like they have plenty of apace to explore. In fact AOXA Your place looks like HEAVEN to anyone who lives in the desert. And it sure it good to hear that you have managed to get through all those problems. Bet it helps having your husband and other family member to help out. Thanks for the video. And I love your beautiful Nubians. Have they kidded yet ?

Kassaundra, do you get any rain there in OK ? After reading aoxa's story, does it help your cope with your terrible loss ?

Aoxa, is the "yard" fenced in? If not, how do you keep the Nubians from wandering? The black and white has beautiful ears.

It is raining now, a big storm is coming in the next couple of hours so they say, it has been raining for most of this week. I hated what happened to my flock, but am very aware in the grand scheme so much worse happens to so many more. I am very pragmatic and don't often "dwell" on negative or things I can't change, just try and figure out how to best fix a situation and keep going forward.

Thanks :)

Rain. Lots and lots of rain... and I have roughly 1.5 acres for the chickens. I have to cut the grass still.. the goats were supposed to help, but nope.. they much prefer the leaves and the garden :|

They went 4 months without a fence at all. They wandered to my neighbours and that's it. They did love my deck...

Fence is up now. Electric. The chickens still can get in and out, but the alpaca, and goats can not.

The geese are my best mowers. :) Oh and the rabbits.

3 month old Nugget, boy or girl? I can't figure it out, Nugget acts like both, and to me looks like both lol
