Naked Neck/Turken Thread

No trade!!! Born and bred so. Calif boy.. below 65 is WAY too cold.. have to put pants on, sheesh!(wait that did not sound right..) Would love to visit the East sometime- only time I crossed the 'big river' was to Florida and the Keys.

And what's that white stuff in your picture?

I will say that's a very scenic picture- the building with the hills in background. Most of our few hills around here are full of granite boulders.

Kassaundra- your ice picture galleries gave me the willies.. pretty but so cold!

It amazes me NN really are living and doing just fine in all those super cold areas.

I almost died of hypothermia getting them!!!! Not a winter type girl at all!

It was horribly cold last night and tomorrow night is to be even worse. It is these back and forth temps that worry me. The high for Monday is to be 40 and by Monday night it is to be -6. It got to be -4 last night and everyone made it through OK. Thank God! I do not have heat in the barn and kept stressing all night long!

We had a balmy 12 this morning but Monday nite -6 with out wind chill. Everyone just pours right out of their houses when the pop door opens, actually the ducks/geese act like they are bothered more by the frigid temps than the chickens do.

Lots of tongue-in-cheek for me in that post...lol I love California, Florida and many other states that I've visited. I'm just in my 'comfort zone' here in WV.

I know many folks are apprehensive of the notion that NNs are very cold-hardy, but there are enough of us that have them in very cold places to affirm this fact.

WV is a very pretty state. We have family that lives near Morgantown.

Ummmm, so I was on another thread and two people were talking about putting some eggs in the incubator and one lady (a newbee) asked how to choose eggs. She wanted to know how to tell if they were fertile and the other person said you candle them when they are laid. I got on and asked exactly what she saw that made her know when her new laid egg was fertile. Her response was, "if it's infertile the light comes straight through, if its fertile it kind of "glows". Brown eggs are hard to tell though." LOL!

Well, from my 36 set eggs, I got 6 chicks. One's got a crippled leg so I suspect I'm going to have to cull tonight. Boo.

But I did get two of the most ADORABLE naked neck black chicks you have EVER seen. Ever. I will post photos.

Fortunately for me, the OH has fallen for the NNs :D So I was able to tell him about my plot with Hellbender :D

So this is what I have been doing wrong all this time!
