Naked Neck/Turken Thread

@Miss Lydia Hope your guys comb is ok.

And everybody, stay safe and warm : )
Thanks, poor Ed no telling what he'd look like though if he was still living at the Church at least here he has a nice house out of the elements. Next year maybe a toboggan and wattles snood.

here are some pics of my flock updated for peeps that have asked to see my black naked necks, but here a little of everything.

pics are not the best since I took them today in a hurry.

Love those birds and all that green grass. and those 2 lil calves running topped it off. One thing about NN they sure couldn't hide out in a crowd could they. lol

@Miss Lydia , When we had that unusual cold here last (whenever it was), some of my 'rather-roost-on-top-of-the-shed' roosters got spots of frostbite on their combs. Nobody got any infections or lost any parts.
Glad to hear that Dipsy, I was most worried about Ed's wattles they looked awful all swelled up with fluid then turned blk with thick scabs but they are beginning to look much better, His comb isn't real bad but I hate he even got any period. Tips are yellowish looking right now hope they heal okay too. Now for another round, sure hope this will be over soon.

I'm wondering if anyone else's NN roo is pulling the feathers out of the hens head? one of my BA's is almost bald so far no skin is involved but once the feathers are gone then he'll probably be grabbing her skin. I'd really do not want her to be scalped. I had a Brahma roo who scalped my frizzle and he ended up in the freezer [he also began attacking us] I really don't want to put Ed in the freezer he's my only NN but I also don't want my hen to have her skin pulled open either, any suggestion other than a helmet? So far I only see one this way she's his favorite.

This is going to sound extreme (and might be)....try rubbing some alum on the spot for a while. It won't hurt the hen or Ed...but he might find her a bit 'distasteful' long enough to give her a time to heal. I've never done it but it sounds like a good idea...

Sure you want to experiment on MY hen lol, I was wondering about rubbing some Nu-Stock on her head it has sulfur in it. Just don't want to make him sick.

Do both...put on the Nu-Stock then rub on the Alum ....the Nu-Stock might make an excellent foundation! Can't hurt.

EDIT: Alum will not make him sick. He might shake his head in disgust and do whatever equates to a chicken spitting but he should get the idea after a bite or two...Nu-Stock or not.

Ahoy,
PLEASE help. I am looking for BLACK turkens. I will buy from 3 day olds to pullets & cockerels. I've tried all the hatcheries I can find on line and can only find "mixed" colors. Thank you!
