Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I have been considering getting some Turkens but i have a few questions?

1. How do they do in colder Climates?
I live in Northern Ohio and lets just say the Winter is COLD and the summer is HOT.

2. Also what is the average height?
I have a ramp in the floor of my coop that i close at night. But there is about a 12in (height) space under the coop for the chickens to get out of the to the run.

Thanks
Our first Chickens ( last Spring ) were NN 1. this part of western WA is usually wet cold in winter. Ours did fine, taking X caution against Wind chill and giving a cover to get out of Rain..
Summers get HOT as your does. we use Shade cloth.

2. Our main coop is Raised about 3 feet or more. Gives us room to Hang feed and bucket Nipple waters as well as container 4 Dust Bath stays dry. with Ramp out of front.

My LF Red Breeding pair.

last NN Rescue

Bantam NN Cockerels.

My NN's not only survived actual temps of negative 39*F, they thrived and didn't miss a stroke with laying so I think they will do ok where you live. I had absolutely no issues with frostbite but I did pre-treat all the cocks/cockerels by slathering their combs/wattles with Ken-AG Udder Cream and re-applied every 4 days through the worst of the weather.

Under most conditions, if the NNs have reasonable shelter, good food and plenty of water, I wouldn't even mess with pre-treating them unless the actual temps go down to 0*F.

I would love a Greek girl, but Greek girls in America only go for American guys for some reason, I don't understand why.. I am looking for a Russian or a Serbian girl.  My Oldest sister is dating a English guy and I don't mind that and my 2nd oldest sister is dating a guy unknown since I never seen the dude.
It's not easy finding Greeks lol. Everyone I know that's Greek is a girlfriend lol or family. My husband is English and German. My dad is also Scottish witch is cool. But I've been realy investigating the Greek culture lately. My grandma and mom are Japanese and women lol so I think that's why I know more about Japanese culture than Greek, my dad n Papu didn't have recepies and traditions to tell me about. So I'm learning them now. My husband was a contractor on a job remodeled a old restaurant into a white tablecloth Greek restaurant so I get traditional Greek food now lol.

Dipsy, How is the black in your FM roos? This chick looks real dark but often times the roos still get quite a bit of red in them. For me it seems to be a numbers game you have to grow up a lot to see the few that keep the black and keep breeding for that. It seems most people, even cemani breeders, tend to show pics of females who tend to stay pretty black.

Desiree, My wifes dad came from Skopolos and I made some greek green beans and he said they were just like his mother made. They are easy to make it only takes fresh green beans, onions, tomatos, olive oil salt and pepper. put oil in pan about a cup, 2 pounds GB, a large onion cut into slices, about 2 or 3 cups of tomatoes choped in a blender. add S & P to taste tward the end. cook it all in a pan untill the tomatoes have no more juice and it looks like everything is just cooking in oil (the oil will turn red) and then cook for a little longer. They are much looked forward to on Greek Easter! BTW I just had some last night!! I also have family in Schodack Landing NY (sorry everyone OT)

That is true. I've been happy with 'mulberry' guys.
I had to spend so many generations 'outcrossing' to get the traits I wanted. I expect that this generation will give males that don't go so much red. They are looking good so far (fingers crossed).
It is a numbers game for sure : ) And I've been learning as I go.

Pics when you can!
