Naked Neck/Turken Thread

yes a naked neck is a know breed, and you have to go by the standar if you want to show it, all though you can show any chicken if you want but you might not win or could get disqualified

the only recognized colors for naked necks are red, black, white and buff but like I said you can show any color

adding to above- a cross with another breed still would give too many feathers in necks. That's a sign of the bird not being pure for the naked neck gene. To get birds with 'right' amount of neck feathers, would have to breed naked neck rooster with naked neck hens to get chicks that have the right amount of neck feathers.

However, outcrossing is very possible to use in goal for a specific color and body type. Just won't be winning with the first generation birds due to bowties typically being too big in those.

Just hatched we got white, splash, blue and black in this pic
All with a double nn gene

You can breed NN with similar breed with the same color/body even with big bowties in America. Last year I went to Northeast Poultry Congress this is the hugest poultry show in the Northeast as a spectator and seen a NN roo with a big bowtie with sh*t red color and he won BB. I even talked with my breeder who is a old school poultry judge and master breeder and he mixes to get that nice color.

If we were in Europe then that's another story.

I'm 100% Greek from 50% King Leonidas and 50% Constantine lines.

Just kidding, but yeah. I'm Greek.
all I know is my fam is from the island of Andros... I think that island actually helped the Persians board boats :/ lame! But I'm still proud to be Greek!! My dad is half Greek and my mom is half Japanese lol

Well, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. I have 15 blue / splash / black Naked Neck Green-Egger girls all moved to a single big pen instead of scattered all around. Now if they'll just START LAYING (buncha slackers!)!

I would love a Greek girl, but Greek girls in America only go for American guys for some reason, I don't understand why.. I am looking for a Russian or a Serbian girl. My Oldest sister is dating a English guy and I don't mind that and my 2nd oldest sister is dating a guy unknown since I never seen the dude.

I have been considering getting some Turkens but i have a few questions?

How do they do in colder Climates?
I live in Northern Ohio and lets just say the Winter is COLD and the summer is HOT.

Also what is the average height?
I have a ramp in the floor of my coop that i close at night. But there is about a 12in(height) space under the coop for the chickens to get out of the to the run.

Thanks

Yes, they can stand cold and warm weather, this winter was really cold and all my naked necks did great.

As for height I never really measured there height but I'm sure they can crawl out.

I'm in northeast Ohio! Can't help you on the questions as I don't have my NNs yet.
