Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Not sure what it's called, but I think it is a mix between a single and ????? whatever breed is in his ansestery that gives him dark skin.

Recently read that continued crossing of rose comb to single for several generations can lead to rose combs that look very different than typical. Some pictures showed combs somewhat similar to his, IIRC.

Normally rose comb crossed to single comb produces rose combs that look more or less like the usual rose combs. In some lines you cannot visually tell which rose combed birds are single comb carriers. For some reason rose comb loses degrees of its 'dominance' if continually bred to single for multiple generations- they start to look more like singles but still 'funky' enough to see they aren't singles.

I know the first pic isn't jaxom but she has a similar comb these were better shots of the comb. I don't think it is a rose, single combo. Maybe some "v" single combo doesn't that make a butterfly, this isn't butterfly but some combo of the three maybe??????

Crest by itself does funny things to the skull, it affects comb appearence too. Houdans also have another gene that affects comb- Duplex comb. A common thing it does is split up the rear part of comb into two, kind of making a Y shape out of the comb- that hen is a great example of Duplex comb effect on a single comb. So Houdans *are* single combed, just they happen to have crest and duplex comb genes plus a couple extra modifiers to turn the comb into butterflies.

Polish have the same(crest and duplex comb) except their combs were selected to be smaller and look more horn-like with help of different modifiers.

Just to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Peaceful Eggful New Year from a wet, windy, misty, isolated mountain somewhere in the middle of Wales.....

Merry Christmas & HNY to you too pgpoultry, and to all the rest of the good people on this thread.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! A few new pictures to share.

5 week old barred NN

another. Definitely a girl. Single comb - very very tiny comb.

Spock. She's a sexy lady, yes?

another barred NN

Black NN - girl I assume. Looks just like mama (Spock)

I'd say Brian is the daddy here. She is far too naked to only have one NN parent. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There are two of these all black girls who are 5 weeks old.

Beautiful birds! I have a broody sitting on a dozen BR/NN crosses. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get some barred females!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas! A few new pictures to share.
