Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Well good morning my NN friends.
Im ready to start hatching again, Pens just got separeted.

So i end up with a very nice rooster That its very deep red in color he is over 2 red pullets and 1 red hen

One very nice and very big white rooster that by the way won in a show I entered ( he was the only NN. In there, but don't say that around the backyard, he told my other chickens this big story about how he won everithing ) well he is also with 3 white pullets

Then I have my black NN rooster over 5 hens and just for fun I also added 2 big black orp pullets

I also have my original blue rooster that I bought from jameshappycowboy years ago he is over my blue girls and the splash girls 10 of them

Last but not least I have a BLRNN rooster Over 8 BLRNN hens, this will be the first time I hatch from them hoping for good results

So I'm very exited about my NN's I just love them so much, ohhh yea I also have a pen of ugly chickens I have a blue rooster over 8 black hens and 3 blue hens , I'm trying to remember what they are called........
Ohh yes I think English Orps, or something like that, but any way lets talk pretty chickens with no feathers

NN's

Are NN hens more dominant than males when it comes to NN children?  It doesn't matter to me cause I have 2 NN roosters and hens.  But is this true??

You mean would one gender throw more Naked Neck offspring than the other in a NN x feather neck cross?

I think it doesn't matter which parent has the Naked Neck gene, either way ---

Nana+ / big bow tie / one copy of naked neck gene X feather neck gives each chick a 50% chance of inheriting the naked neck gene.

NaNa / small or no bow tie / two copies of Naked Neck gene x feather neck, then ALL the chicks will be Naked Neck.

If there is something else going on with one gender throwing more Naked Neck chicks, then I haven't heard of it (but then, I live under a rock).

That's how I took the question too. I have never hatched a non NN chick out of my NN hen's eggs, but when my NN roo was the father of a hen with a feathered neck, they did not have naked necks.

Do you think that's because one of my hens is NaNa?

This is the spock that is the mother of my chicks, as I only end up getting one green egg at a time this winter. I have caught her in the nesting box. She has the smallest bow tie, and is naked down her belly, on both sides of her back and around her vent.

From the front. Obviously has a very large bow tie. I'd love to have a black NN rooster.

I think you are right, the black hen (she's a beauty!) is NaNa and Brian is Nana+. The black chick (from black hen x Brian) looks to be NaNa too. Was that one male or female?
Female. I've hatched only two chicks from parents who were both NN. The rest are all fathered by a barred rock.

I'm setting up breeding pens this weekend and next. Come on spring!!

and thank you!

I think that many hatches are needed to determine percentages. Glad that you are making your pens ready for springtime fun for you and the rest of use to read about.

Crazy morning...dogs came into my yard, one worked their way under the fence and killed my banny roo...I cornered it and shot it and well when the deed was done my young NN roo let out his first crow...I called it Leroy's Victory Crow lol

I will be posting pics. It is a very large endeavour!

Going to be 12 pens. Each 4x4 feet for breeding trios. Giving them over 5 square feet a bird.

Probably will do 5 bantams to a pen though.

Going to be lots of work!!
