Those might be the birds with the scaleless gene. I think Kassaundra has birds that were crossed to scaleless birds.
I think they are cool in a way-out-there way.

Woud those kind of females need saddles? Just wondering. I actually thought the photo I saw of the naked chicken was strange. Don't know if I would want one....although I guess they would be easy to clean!!!

Carrying the Sc gene is different from expressing it as completely naked. A hen that just carries the gene would look like a NN w/ less feathering, but to get a naked chick you have to have 2 carriers and even then it isn't to common. I wasn't sure if the naked female needed a saddle for breeding or if it is a case of AI.

I remember reading a post [from Israel] about naked chickens, that they were being bred in hot climates to help them stay cool....Now we might be talking about a completely different bird, I just remember that....

Different line but same reason for nakedness, I believe.

If I got any scaleless chickens they would HAVE to be house-chickens. I couldn't stand to put them outside : )

Is that little NN I hatched that has no feathers on her butt or most her stomach one of these types of chickens? She has wing feathers, and a mochak down her back and that is about it. oh, and on her head.

Ok. Its just the others all have feathers everywhere except, of course, their necks. They are 2 1/2 weeks old now. When should I be able to start telling their sex? I know a few are males. Knew thefirst day! But I'm not familiar with some of their combs. I guess I just need to be patient ...time will tell. I wrote my guesses from day one based on four different things. Will see how good my guesses were.
