Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thought I would share for funsies.
I wore my headphones around my neck with the volume blasting while feeding and cleaning today. This was Herman's (and Buffy..and every other chicken out there) reaction to the music. Rubber necks.

Suffice it to say they like music, particularly piano and violin instrumentals.

Now if you can teach them to dance you might be able to retire!

Exactly! All gorgeous birds! I'm determined to have some DDD eggs someday. DH is very much against my NN obsession. I don't understand him...they're beautiful.

I'm curious, too. My oldest NNs are now over 6 months old, huge, but still haven't crowed a once. Not that I'm complaining lol. Be interesting to hear when everyone else's roos generally start crowing?

My deleware started crowing at 4 months old.

I have other roo breeds that have started crowing as early as 5 weeks old. Besides these NNs, the only other roosters I have that aren't crowing by 6 months old are Silkies. Didn't know if it was just a breed thing, or a lazy/timid/pathetic individual thing.

My batch of teens hatched on 4-26 and several individuals have been crowing for a couple of weeks now, others not a peep. I have roos in the flock.

From what I've heard, if you already have a "head rooster", the younger ones don't always start crowing right away. I have 3 cocks & 2 pullets in together, 1 has decided he will be head rooster. The other 2 don't crow, only him. In another, I have 3 cocks by themselves, no pullets. Only 1 crows, but even though he's 2 wks older than the 'head cheese' he didn't start crowing until a few wks after and he rarely crows. The only other ones that crow are ones that I brought in as adults who already think they're 'established'.
