I've seen some of my young pullets do this and even go in a lay on the shaving when one of the hens is laying an egg in a nesting box like they are taking mental notes, [can't write, no hands] lol I found one of my young Muscovy girls laying in a nest box the other day practicing. so sweet.I wouldn't be surprised, she is sweet and a very calm girl. Planing a head, see which one fits, I have 6 boxes, but only 3 are used, one has a broody in it. They found their own 7th nesting spots in the unused brooder. Flower will probably barrow Sylvia for breeding.
My thermometer reads 1 F and feels like it too! I just got back in from feeding EVERYONE their 'SPECIAL' warm winter mash that they get all winter long as well as warm water. Don't know what I'd do if I didn't have water in the chicken houses!
The only places I have to carry water to are the two 10X12 grow-out houses and they are essentially in my back yard.![]()
I see you live in Millersburg OH...I have lots of extended family in that town and general area...their last name is 'Cool'. Lots of 'em around there!
Oh, I am in Millersburg Pennsylvania not Ohio. It would have been "cool" if I was was! Sorry, it has been one of those days and that was a bad pun. LOL
It looks like you were colder than us here. It was 10 this morning. I also make mine a warm mash every morning and they love it. In the summer I make it very cold to cool them down. So you have warm water in your chicken houses? That is awesome! I have a pump in the barn where the main flock is but it is not warm!! That would be awesome to have handy!!
Sorry for moving you to Ohio! lol Having free natural gas makes heating lots of water and piping it to the houses three feet down in insulated underground pipes a real luxury. Considering where you actually live, you are likely familiar with the concept of 'free natural gas'.
I am familiar with it but not very knowledgeable about it. Now, ask me about coal!I come from a family of coal miners. One of my crazy silkies tried to hatch some coal last winter. She kept sneaking under the porch and setting on a few pieces of coal that were under there. I would get her out at night and she would go right back under the next morning. I should have left her go because I might have a few diamonds by now! LOL
