Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Someone once said when roos begin to crow they sound like a Kazoo, and it's true.

My favorite young cockerel from this year's batch just started getting 'manly', trying to molest the ladies and being a pest to them in general. If there weren't so many pullets between two cockerels, I'd feel very sorry for the young gals.

My cockerel quite literally sounds like he's being choked to death.

I'd love to hear this one.

I'll say it again...I know nothing about color inheritance. Sooo...A question for Kev AND anyone else with knowledge.

Below is a pic of one of my favorite cockerels. I don't even know what color he would be called. I plan to pen him with about 6 older NN hens in the spring that have the same very dark red color all over except that they have a few black feathers in their tails.

What are the odds of getting more solid red hens and perhaps some cockerels with less black feathers than this fella?

Thanks to all in advance! His actual color can be better seen by left clicking on the pic.

as a Cockerel

He still looks very young...how old is he?

Ok...I just checked the date on the pic.

Per your EDIT: Chickens, like people, mature at various ages. I have one cockerel that came out of the shell, trying to boss the hens and another (my buddy) who tries to be the ladies man but would snatch the food right out of their beaks!

Disclaimer: Someone asked me in a PM why I post in BOLD TYPE...the reason is because I lost my left eye in Vietnam and if that weren't bad enough, I have developed a cataract on the right one.

I'm trying to hold off 'til my son returns home before having it removed because I really don't have anyone I can trust to deal with this many birds, even for a couple days. Sorry if anyone thinks I'm 'SHOUTING' at them. When I use the bold type, at least I can see what I'm writing....
