Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thank you draye.
I just wanted to be sure.
I have done some non NN crossing into mine and I still occasionally get a non NN to hatch. I think my current rooster isn't NaNa (I think that is what I mean for not pure for the NN gene). He has a big bowtie.

My rooster seems to be NaNa (pure) No bow tie, naked to below the crop.
I recently acquired him. Unknown heritage, possibly feather legged bantam cross. He has a pea comb. Red with barring, quite a pretty boy.

Reason I asked is that I got a hen at the same time. She supposedly came from the same line, but shows no NN traits. She also has feather legs.
These are not bantams. They are both med size, she lays small tinted eggs.

Could be some Faverolle in them. I would love to have bigger sized NN's but I really am hesitant to add in feathered legs. I'm trying to down size as far as breeds go so I'mm letting the Jersey Giants go, but am going to keep one Blue hen to see if I can improve the size. I also, am going to use some Easter Eggers very lightly in them trying for peacombs but with brown eggs.

Personally, I want larger NN. Seems the hawks zero in the smaller birds. I'm only keeping chickens for fun and eggs are the benefit. I don't care if they are heavy layers. My interest is the different looks that can be created using different mixes.
I am starting with chicks since the bobcats took my whole flock last year.
I really like the personality and look of the NN. I have OE, EE and other varied chicks of a multitude of breeds. I'm trying to focus on a specific line, but for now I just want to see what is what. All for fun. Besides, they are amusing and beautiful.
For now they are in a covered secure pen that is 25 x 35 feet and a predator proof (knock on wood) coop at night. Lots of running around room.
I am getting new chicks next month that will include Crevcoeurs, Brabanters, Russian Orloff, various Wyandottes, asst. Orpingtons and a couple of Frizzles oh, and Madagascar Game chicks. A couple of others I can't recall right now.
I figure, if I don't like them, I can always sell them.

Okay guys I have new chick pics of the latest hatch. It was a long hard one, lots of work on my end assisting and many in icu. I forget if I was able to post about it or not, my internet has been down for 2 days, still is but went to my fil's to use his server, it is a diff carrier. They supposedly are working on the problem and it is nationwide but isolated individuals or areas.

These two came from green eggs, seem to have inherited pea combs, and showed pics of their backs to show just how naked they really are w/ the pea comb/ nana gene combo

I didn't realize until this pic I forgot to take the tape off this guy's legs, it isn't connected anymore, he was one of the icu'ers, he is doing great now

Okay I thought about not including these ones at first, but oh well here they are. He was in intense icu and still is in guarded condition. I do not actually think he will make it, but I didn't think he would make it to day 3 either. My eggs shrink wrapped bad this time. I had to assist almost all of them, he was just about 12ish hours to soon (but shrink wrapped wouldn't have made it till then) so was hatched w/ a huge abd hernia (the reason for the tape on the back end) his legs are weak and had to be hobbled, he needed shoes to at first but that is better. The hernia bandage was much bigger to at first. The tape starts just below the vent so he can poop. He can open his eyes and can see, just doesn't do it as much as I would like. The hernia is much better, he is eating and pooping well formed good poops, but walking is still hard for him. His hatchmates aren't to welcoming, but we have been working w/ that and seem to be making progress. I didn't even think this was genetically possible w/ the males and females I had. I knew I had a male carrier, but he had to sneak to mate, had no clue who the female carrier is didn't know I had one. Anyway I think w/ the odds this guy has already beaten if he makes it I will name him Rudy after that Notre Dame football player, who beat such incredible odds.

awww those look like little dinosaurs so cute.

I am normally hard core survival of the fittest, but Rudy is a special case!!!!!

Nava, I was shocked when I saw what I had, didn't have any idea I had the right genetics this time around!
