Omg y'all my naked neck is laying eggs for the first time two days in a row yay first eggs !! But she layed them on top of the coop in the blanket that I have covering to coop at night I took them but she keeps going to the spot all frantic and is all bundled on top like she is broody!! Is it possible or is she just new and kinda freaking out trying to figure it all out! I put the egg back just to see what she would do to it and she pecked at it pushed it around and sat on it

Wow she started much sooner than I expected! That's basically how hens, especially young ones are like when they are about to lay an egg. They have to find the right spot and make it just perfect. She happened to find and choose that spot- she feels it's a great location but probably wants to make it perfect-er. But how, how HOW????!!! lol

She looks like she might be a very broody hen.. as in she will drop down and sit if given half of a chance to. It's all hormonal and normally the cycle only starts after laying maybe 20-30 eggs in very broody inclined hens.

Yes kev hopefully she will calm down three eggs three days in a row and now no eggs or she just found a good hiding spot we will see !!! We have no roosters so hopefully she will just chill out sigh

Hello everyone, I follow this thread for some time. I love NN, these are mine, some are two years old and some from last year:

free renging with our pet bunny:

last year croos from NN buff hen x splash silke roo:

These NN babies I've got are hard to tell for sure their sex. Usually I can tell pretty early but these are harder.

There are about 5 out of one clutch that are roosters for sure. The other three I'm saying pullet but tail feathers look cockerel. The other clutch have 3. They are pretty hard the one is really throwing me off by the coloring is telling me cockerel the comb is saying pullet. Tried the vent method, but I don't really trust myself that way yet, but it looks pullet that method.

Then there are the Green Eggers that are NN there are seven of them, only one looks cockerel by the comb, but the other ones that look like pullets, have tree trunks for legs. This I have seen before though.

Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome! You have very beautiful chickens. They look a little different from usual, where are you from? I love that roo in picture above...

Wow am surprised you can have a free range rabbit... it is not possible at my place, because the cats around here would catch it for sure.

I have a pretty naked neck rooster that I would like to sell but I got the egg in a swap and I can not say for sure he is pure bred. He is standard size, hatched in July and doesn't crow yet. How much should I ask for him?
