Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Like cutting off a whole hand off, right? I was wondering if the whole hand part- where all the primaries are is cut off or cutting half of the hand part is all that's necessary.

Something that confused me in the past was seeing some exotic waterfowl or birds like crowned cranes, some of them seemed unable to fully stretch out the pinioned wing during flapping kind of looked like the hand plus part of the arm was cut off also.

Everybody says the same as you do- pinioning is not traumatic to the chick if done at day old and survival is excellent.

Thanks for the answer!

To be honest, if there's a question about their survival...I'm not going to do it. I have no problem caponizing cockerels, castrating young bulls, kid goats etc but there's something strange about cutting off a part of the wing.

For one thing, if the bird needs to fly to escape a predator, that's pretty much a no-go.

But....for those who do it...more power!!! I've decided there will be no ducks here anyhow!!!

No ducks or pinioning here. They both disgust me. :(

On another topic....Turkens...I had a lot of interest in my chicks. I only have three left that I was going to keep. After thinking about it, I might just sell the remaining chicks so that I will have a reason to HATCH MORE. My black copper marans is finally laying again and I'd like to hatch a bunch of her eggs. My goal all along was to breed her to the turken to get some olive and chocolate NNs. There is never a better time than the present!

My frizzle Naked Neck hens and their olive eggs. The pic doesn't do either justice.
