Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Some cuteness for today. Miss Priss (frick) and T'ma (frack). T'ma was from the bantam bin at TSC, any ideas about breed???

Great pics and chicks! I got to say that Miss Priss is much more cuter than Rudy was. I don't know why, but I think so.

Probably b/c of skin color, Rudy had more Fm so had a green / grey colored skin, generally found not appealing. lol

I usually like Fm birds more than other especially naked necks, I guess don't find Fm Sc chickens pretty.

I think fm that is darker would be appealing, but w/ the light fm and underlying yellow skin the color is just "off" from what is expected or even appealing.

I agree with that.
I also have some more then great news, my grandma set the broody one week ago (Nn broody, I don't have pics of her because she freaks out when anyone gets near her) and 17 eggs under her that can be naked necks and also some of them may come to my home


Oh, one more question if girls are younger than boy, there should be more pullets and if the boy is younger than hens, there should be more cocrels? Am I right?

Yeah that is true about yellow skin and Fm producing a strange greenish color. It has extra bit of oddness to see in person on some birds, you can see a layer of clear yellow skin over the Fm part.

A friend swears that pullet and hen's first eggs after coming back into lay throw more pullets. Eggs laid much later in the cycle throw more cockerels.

I'm not sure how valid that is but after she told me that, I noticed the shamo pullet's very first batch of eggs produced all pullets, just one cockerel....

Yes, I mean from the eggs.
Then I have a problem.. Her hens are realy old, I mean tge eggs that she set are from older hens because her younger hens that she bought as chicks lay almost bantam eggs. And rooster is last year's also...

I'm Starting to get Discouraged

I've been Searching Years Now, ..... All I'm wanting are : N N Bantams : in WA State , And all I can find are Large, that and Attitudes from " real Breeders " who condem my " Mutt Chickens "

Historically NNs were bred as meat birds. It isn't surprising that people would have larger birds for meat production.

Maybe you could get a rooster and breed it to a couple of Bantam hens to create your own line.

Someone in Parkland has Turken/silkies for sale. They aren't bantams, but they will be smaller.
