I've wondered that to. One of my my projects this summer is to make my own incubator out of an ice chest I have. For now im going to try the rice. I've got a couple weeks to play with the humidity before I have enough eggs I want to imcubate.ill post how it goes

Great, would love updates on the rice experiment(that is a new one to me) and on the homemade incubator. I don't have an incubator due to chicken dander allergies but now I have an outdoor brooder building, have been thinking of either getting an cabinet incubator or doing a homemade one to put in it.....

I think the best bet is to find someone willing to ship eggs. NN bantams, especially bred to show standard are not easy to find.

I believe Duane Urch in Owatonna... MN? may still have NN bantams, he does sell eggs and day old chicks.. his information is easy to find by searching for his name.

I think it is Dunlap Hatchery?? not sure?? is the only hatchery that sells NN bantams but from pictures, they are obviously mixed color and mixed with Old English bantams most likely. Nothing wrong with that, but not what you want if looking for stock bred to the standard.

btw if show bred is what you;re looking for... try the show poultry sites and magazines- Poultry Press used to be very popular and a major source for contacts pre-Internet days... have not seen the name in forever though.

Interesting you are looking for bantam NN. I am pretty sure that my blue out there is a bantam. Also a yellow and black one that I gave to a friend is small. Staying the same size as my silkies that I hatched at the same time. The Marans and EE's that hatched with them are passing them up big time in size. I got the eggs from a lady that has many many chickens, they all run around and do their thing. Who knows what mix made these tiny tots. No five toes, no fuzzy, just NN, and little. :)
