Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Newbie here with a question- I purchased a 12 week old cockerel that has dark green/gray legs but my 10 week old pullets have yellow legs. Is this usual?

It's common to see variable leg and feather coloring in turkens. Some sources deliberately mix them for color variety. Hatchery stock throw birds with all sorts of leg colors- yellow, white, blue, green.

The NN standard does call for yellow legs, except on blacks but if you are not a stickler for standard breeding then breed them however you like.

Just in case- the yellow leg color is a combination of yellow body skin plus a gene that stops another gene that puts a certain kind of pigment in the legs. This gene is sex linked and dominant, which means your birds will throw yellow legged cockerels and green legged pullets.

My newest one ice had about month now decided to try it today. Not sure if he'll try it again though after I pulled my steel toes not out if his .............................................…..........................well it didn't really go there but he got it good and never really kicked him just thought he did. He will think twice before he does it again.
