Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Male/female question: Ok here are some pics of my NNs. I ordered ten pullets total from Ideal, and some I split with friends. I ended up with 5. Most of them at seven weeks look like this:

The one that has, from time to time, the red comb and wattles is this one, although I didn't get very good pictures of him.

While I was getting pics, this one seems to have red wattles also, however, so?

Thanks!

Those are still looking like pullets to me. Here are some photos of my cockerels @ 7 weeks for comparison. Notice that the combs and wattles are already quite prominent.

And here's a couple of my pullets @ 7 weeks for comparison:

I hope this helps you sort out their genders. Either way, you have beautiful birds!

Thank you, that helps a lot! I guess I did get all pullets, lol. Wishful thinking I suppose. I already have way too many cockerels around here...in fact one of my new little building projects is to create a bachelor condo for all of them. I just really like NNs, more than I thought I would. I'll pick up a male somewhere down the line I'm sure.

Those all lok like pullets to be. It is not unusual for pullets in the NN breed to get really red faces and wattles at a young age. I don't think the comb and wattles are a good way to determine sex on NN's. especially that young. JMHO.

@magdelaine ....I think all your chicks are pullets as well but don't go looking for a cockerel too soon. These 'buggers' have a way of fooling us sometime and in very short order, there will be no doubt!

Its kinda funny...usually folks dread getting a cockerel or two but when you find you actually want one...

well. i have 1 chick hatch all rest didnt make it. out of 14 1 hatch 2 internal pip which happened to be a wlh \nn and a lavender orpington. all my orpington astrolop nn crosses had many issues. didnt fully develop or organs on outside. and my one full nn there didnt seem to be anything wrong with just didnt try to hatch. im guessing its genetics? think im going to order live chicks and then try again next spring.in the mean time maybe i can get a new bator

Ouch. If it's mixed breeds, different breeds or different lines/parents I would say it's not genetics. Incubation issue- either the machine, the environment or both.

i kept a good eye on temp nevergot to hot or to cold. all eggs fertilized by same roo. only chicks that made it in any batch hatched a day early and where out of a wlh,i also noticed all surviving chicks were female.... just to save on deaths i think im done incubating this year.ive got a broody wlh under thr house going on week 2 also fertilized by same roo. well see how she does but i think for next year a new roo an bator..i was going to order some chicks from mcmurry but dang shipping nearly cost as much as the chicks so ill wait till fall and get some from ideal

Who does a guy gotta get ahold of to by sone day olds or hatching eggs of the colored egg laying naked necks? Found a place on the net called Les Farms but they are in Canada. Any breeders in U.S?

Ideal poultry or mcmurry ship day old. Right now ideal won't have any till fall but mcmurry has some

Kev I found a lady local who is willing to incubate for me.so I'm taking her eggs th is weekend to start hoping to find out for sure what the problem is.

I offered to pay to have her incubate them do y'all know what a fair amount to pay her would be?
