Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Had to take a break from moving chickens around....    got stung by a red Harvester ant..  they Hurt shockingly bad!   The initial shooting burning pain is over but now the sting location is throbbing with hot flashes.   I can bear it out but wondering if there's some kind of remedy besides pain pill and bendaryl...?

Hope you get to feeling better.
The only other remedy I know of for stings is chewing tobacco. Gross but it worked taking the sting away for me. I wouldn't get any from anyone else done a lot of gagging but managed to get it wet and applied to the dying.

This will be the sire of my next round of Naked Neck chicks:

This is Mister Bo Spangles.

He is an Aloha, I'm going to use him to sire some mottled carriers for my Calico Naked Neck program.

I'm using him along with a red rooster that has some light mottling on him and also a Red pea comb rooster that is NN (1/2) with 1/4 each if Easter Egger ( used for the pea comb) and Production Red ( for egg production).

The Pea combed rooster will be used on a few 1/2 sisters of his.
Oh, he's so beautiful!!!!

You know, I had completely forgotten about that! When I was little, I used to run around outside and in the woods all the time, and got stung by yellow jackets a lot. My mother used to smoke (not heavily), and she would break an unlit cigarette in half and pull out the tobacco, wet it, and put it on the sting. It really does work well, as I recall. Makes me think a pack of cigarettes should be in my first aid kit (I have TONS of paper wasps that have decided that my house is theirs, and I've gotten multiple nasty stings lately...)

Yikes! That's awful! I was told that Desitin, the diaper ointment, helps, but I've never tried it myself. Have you considered tequila...or bourbon...?

@draye You're birds are looking beautiful! I'm becoming increasingly fond of that calico look. Luckily, I live fairly close to the Aloha Chicken breeder and hope to add a few to my flock this winter.

@Kev Two of my NN girls lay green eggs. One lays more of an olive green color, and the other more of a mint green. Both of those girls have single combs.

@hellbender I've never tried wattles or combs.....and I seriously doubt I ever will, and especially from this guy. He's my favorite NN cockerel and I plan to force him to live a very long life.

Unlike my other boys, his feathers are tighter, making him look smaller and lighter than they are but he's got a well-formed breast and meaty thighs, plus he's very smart, very human friendly, and a VERY gentlemanly rooster. He's been very diligent about including some of my other flocks into his own to share in treats, is protective of all the birds, not just the other NNs, and has proven to be a diligent defender against potential predators. I've even seen Heisenberg work in tandem with my Bielefelder cockerels to usher all of the pullets to safety when a hawk posed a potential threat. My third NN cockerel is the largest and had the highest and fastest growth rate, but his personality is positively dull by comparison. I'm keeping him because of his size and gentle temperament, but my Heisenberg will be the head of the flock.

Oh! I almost forgot....a while back I posted some photos of a "mystery chick", asking if anyone could guess what breeds may have been mixed together to result in this unusual bird. Well, I still don't know for certain what his genetic makeup is, but he's turning out to be a really lovely but unusual cockerel...outstanding disposition towards humans, but very attentive of the ladies, and most definitely a dominant personality. I'm seriously thinking of crossing him with some of the NN girls just to see what the offspring turn out like...a fun little experiment. This is how he looks at roughly 15 weeks:

Thanks for the compliments on the birds.
Maybe cigarettes are good for something after all.

If you could get done ( either eggs or chicks) from Sommer it would help you along in the Calico looks.

On another note this afternoon I figured out that I lost one if my green Eggers to a possum last night. Fixed the problem ( hopefully).

Got 8 coming up from the hatch that came from the green eggs. Fingers crossed for all them to be pullets.

Looks to be Birchen with gold leakage. Possibly a Houdan cross. I had some Houdan crosses once that looked a lot like him but were a Gold Birchen.

Interesting.. you are right about it being the only good thing about cigarettes!

The pain is thankfully way down.
