Good news. I was doing chicken chores today when I heard egg song from a part of the yard where it didn't belong - almost sounded like it was in the neighbor's yard (neighbor doesn't have chickens). Sure enough, Puppy had gotten out AGAIN - every day for a while now, never sure how she got out of the paddock. But wait, EGG SONG?! Sure enough, I found this:I told her that I totally understood that she wanted to be a Mommy, but that I wanted her to finish high school first.
I cleared out her nest and put her back in, and this time I saw her get right back out - just flew right over a 6 foot net fence.
Anyhow, the good news part is that two of these eggs are double yolkers - so PUPPY is the one who has been laying these frequently. (She's fine, but not a specific part of future breeding plans, so not an issue.) They were delicious.
And I got a nice normal one from Mystique today. Maybe I have a broody in the making? They are all arguing over their favorite nest boxes - and Polly the hatchery NH is VERY serious and likes to sit tight and long, so she gets no respect...
Clip a wing on one side only, shouldn't be able to fly over anymore. - Ant Farm
