Sure enough, Puppy had gotten out AGAIN - every day for a while now, never sure how she got out of the paddock. But wait, EGG SONG?! Sure enough, I found this: I told her that I totally understood that she wanted to be a Mommy, but that I wanted her to finish high school first. :lol: I cleared out her nest and put her back in, and this time I saw her get right back out - just flew right over a 6 foot net fence.:he Anyhow, the good news part is that two of these eggs are double yolkers - so PUPPY is the one who has been laying these frequently. (She's fine, but not a specific part of future breeding plans, so not an issue.) They were delicious. :clap And I got a nice normal one from Mystique today. Maybe I have a broody in the making? They are all arguing over their favorite nest boxes - and Polly the hatchery NH is VERY serious and likes to sit tight and long, so she gets no respect... Vanilla, a black NN/EE collect her eggs but I have not seen her be inclined to sit on them. My run is covered in aviary netting and shade cloth mounted on frames. When she is determined she can find a way out to hide her eggs. Wing clipping is not something that I wish to do. Miss Rosa also is adept at finding herself on the other side of the fence but she loves to sit and be a mother. I have not found her hiding place this time around. I wonder if she has stopped laying and just like to roam the yard. Soon I'll need to spend much more time outside to watch their activities.

SEveral of my hens used to spend the night in the nest boxes and of course pooped while inside. They also fought of the boxes. I took a sheet of clear plastic, cut one inch strips and stapled it to the top of the boxes as a curtain.

No more problems involving the nesting boxes.

When my little NN pullet, Reba, hurt her leg it took her several days to start moving around normally. During that time I guess she really bonded with me because now she runs to me and wants to be held every time I stop outside and she follows me and talks constantly while I tend to water, feed, egg collection, etc. These birds really are amazing in the way they heal though. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your girls recovers quickly.

all of my chickens run and talk to me but NNs seem to speak different language, lol. I can recognize them even without seeing which one is talking. 1 of my mutts is singing just like 1 of my red stars (they sing when I bring them food) so I guess they are of the same origins. I have 4 red stars but 1 looks a bit different than the others.

as for aniela, I hope she gets well soon. she is heavy so that does not help.
