Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Checked and counted the babies today.
All 44 still here and doing well. Had to change 4 of the leg bands already on 4 of them. They were all the same color except one. Wondering if those threeight be quick growers.

I just love my frizzled chick. Both of my NNs are so sweet. The grey is Pikachu and the black is Togepi. An obsession is growing! lol!
Should I make any adjustments to my coop for them for winter? I live in the mountains in Maryland and it gets pretty cold and windy.

Does anyone have any links to a part that explains the genetics of NN's? I wouldn't be sad to cross them with my silkies, lol! But I'll keep making my way through this thread too!!

Haha the frizzle really looks like a pokemon of some kind.. great name too- all the feathers sticking out from electric shock, ha..

I'm the resident genetics geek in this thread.. ask away!

Hello all, I picked up 2 NN at the local feed store 3 weeks ago. I really went in to pick up some Brahma pullets as I have some BIG Bielefelder/red Orpington cockerels (I bought them as pullets oops <sigh>) and was looking for a big breed for them. Anyway I saw the 10 day old NN's and fell in love with their bald little heads and 2 just happened to jump into the box with the Brahmas. A black and a yellow/buff. So i have been lurking on this thread since then looking at all the beautiful pics you all have posted.
I am at page 232 of this thread. Not a great photo, no one wanted to be photogenic today. They are almost 4 weeks now and are the sweetest things. I wish I had got a few more now. This is an awesome thread.

Aren't NNs AWESOME??!!

In other news, Apoc went after my boot today when changing his water - he needed a (gentle) kick to stop. Things are not looking good for him. He may be dinner soon - but I've not been injured yet, and he's been cooped up, so I'm going to give him a little longer and a couple more chances... Snape is starting be a PIA as well, but I'm chalking it up to crazy spring behavior (which is why Apoc gets another chance).

BUT BUT BUT!!!!! Tank is being just the VERY BEST flock rooster with his girls!!!! They are such a great, cohesive happy family group. And he's pretty sweet with me (not that I try to cuddle or anything) - maybe because I had to physically put him to bed every night for over a month. Of course, the girls will only use one of the two nest boxes, because he likes to get in the other one sometimes.

He's more slender as an adult than Apoc and Snape (as opposed to his really extraordinary fast growth as a baby), but well built and very healthy. Very happy with him. It makes me so happy to watch them roam in their new paddock.

I don't know yet..  Wheaten roo over silver lace hen.  was not expecting this chick pattern from this cross, maybe the hen is not totally pure for the silver lace pattern.. maybe he will grow to have a silver spangle-ish pattern..

I'd live to see a Silver Duckwing rooster in Naked Neck. I actually think i had one from my January hatch, but all of those chucks have moved on.

Nice pic!

That is a part of chicken math..... different birds having their pro and cons.. aggh!

How is Snape being bad with the girls? I do not tolerate aggressive roos, particularly human aggressive ones.. they really are not necessary and this is a hobby for me.

@Kev or anyone else:

I found out that along with the Blue Copper Marans (with a few Black CMs of different parentage and a splash CM as well), German New Hampshires, and Olive eggers (blue egg gene from wheaten ameraucana), Luane is throwing in one Lavender Ameraucana as she was short one olive egger (as well as an extra BCM). They arrive Thursday.

Can you remind me about the whole feathering thing when putting pea combs into NNs? Just wondering...

(I SOOOOO hope it turns out to be a pullet!!!)
