Naked Neck/Turken Thread

6 weekers, you are spot on! I'm wondering what color pattern they will end up - they are just hatchery NN.

Is this chick a cockerel? Saw a facedown between it and my only ameraucana (course the ameraucana would be a boy and the only one to hatch %*#@, punk)

Might need to know how to process a chicken soon, caught my only layer age pullet eating an egg. Had suspected it for a while so bought a dozen brown eggs to match her egg color. Hollowed one out a filled it with regular mustard. Found a bit of the egg shell left and mustard smelling nesting box. Filled one more hollowed out wgg with spicy brown mustard and juice from my salsa. That'll teach her if she eats it. Still intact this evening, so maybe the first one taught her. Will have to wait and see. If I don't see eggs in a few days, I'll have to find someone to help me-never processed a bird before.

You might want to wait and see if it works itself out - I was convinced to (had an egg eater), and I'm glad I waited. The egg eater was only eating the abnormal/thin shelled eggs that some of the pullets were laying (which is sort of normal). Just in case, I also separated her in the coop for about 3 days in a dog crate as well. No more egg eating.

I understand that some folks have had true confirmed "vicious" e.g. eaters, but if your pullets are all young and coming into lay, I'd hold off, or you may find yourself culling a lot of otherwise good girls.

Just a thought...

It's really hard to tell for sure, but I've seen pullets that look that red, and that really looks like a pullet to me.

She's got a while anyway, never culled and don't know how. Trying loaded egg, the second of the loaded eggs is still in there intact. Thanks for separation idea. Will put in my small isolation coop when I go to put everyone to bed.

I was wondering how true they breed as well? If you cross them with non-NNs?
