am I the only one that has always been in love with the NNs?

it seems that my jumbo (hatched in december) is getting broody. it is already too hot. should I give it a try? a year ago I had a broody at this time but she didn't hatch any chicks. ok, she was young and didn't get up so she was pooping on the eggs. that's why I wonder if I should try with jumbo in case she insists.

This first time I saw a fully grown NN I didn't really know what I was looking at. The first time I saw NN chicks I fell instantly in love and wanted to buy every single one of them.

I've loved the NN ever since the first time I saw them about 45 years or so ago. Seems like they were way bigger chickens back then.

mine are still big. even the last ones (about 3 months old) are bigger than the others of the same age.

Well I decided today to try a inbreeding matings. Some of you may know that I'm doing a Mottled/Calico Naked Neck project.

I had been breeding my Mottled Partridge hen to to my Red Mottled NN rooster. The first time with a different rooster and have two Red daughters from that mating.
Anyway back to plans.

I have taken the Mottked Partridge hen and the 2 red daughters and three daughters ( they have some light mottling in wing area) and put them in a run together. I moved her son a Mottled Partridge in with them. So he will be mating with his mother, 2 half sisters and three full sisters.

I tried the Mottled Partridge with the Spangled Aloha rooster and didn't care for the results of that mating. He did produced good color with the 2 red hens in this run , but with the Partridge color it is kind of a messy partridge color with some mottling. Giving this a try holding off on any hatching until about September though.

So do you folks think this will work on helping my mottled project? I'm not a big fan of inbreeding but have decided to do at least a one time hatch to see how it will turn out.

I don't think inbreeding is such a problem w/ chickens. In a natural flock it would exist.

I'm in the group that was love at first sight w/ the NN, my first flock were EE b/c I didn't want all my chickens to look alike, but once I discovered NN I never went back.

mating him with his mother and half sisters shouldn't be a problem. mating full siblings once only I guess shouldn't be a problem either. too much inbreeding create severe problems. I have seen birds that were result of too much inbreeding, they had leg and neck issues and lived less than 3 months.

First time I saw them, I was a little kid with my mom. She didn't like them, and as always, if parents don't like something, kids don't like it too. Next time I saw them in my grandma's brooder and fell in love.
