Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hello, fellow Naked Neck fans. I'm not new to BYC but totally new to the NN thread. I ordered a couple NNs this past spring and received 3. Kind of did it on a whim - they sure seem to be an interesting looking bird and I always have a bunch of different breeds at one time. I was a little wigged out at their appearance as chicks but let me tell you, now that they are of near laying age, I am hooked. They are the favorites in my flock! Great personalities and so friendly! I think what amazed me was looking through all the NN pics on this forum. Had no idea they could be so many different colors. My three kind of look like red sex links in coloration but of course have the naked neck. Apparently there isn't a breed standard on color? Anyway, hope it's okay for a NN newbie to pop on over to this forum once in awhile and hang out with some fellow NN lovers!

Of course - welcome! We're crazy about NNs here...

Still trying to show off my "Pete", and the new addition "Lucy". Photos are not cooperating. Pete was a single hatch from Mothergoose. Her eggs arrived pristine, but we had storm related power outage and only Pete hatched. However... He IS BEAUTIFUL! I found Lucy at a local swap-meet.

Can someone help me with photos? I am using the photo button to upload from my device. I get "embedding image" but nothing attaches.

Are you doing it on mobile? Phone? My old phone it was much easier to get them to take just by editing the photo, just crop to same size and post, worked everytime. New phone doesn't work that way, but is much easier switching to desktop mode without problems, pics post everytime in desktop mode. Don't know why but sometimes pics on either phone would post first try no problem with the photo button without editing or going into desktop mode, and then sometimes I could try over and over and never take....
I've also emailed pics from my phone to our laptop email to post.

Welcome to the "we love our NNs" thread! Trust me, we're always happy to have another NN lover in the group. There is actually an SOP for NNs, but once you get hooked on them your imagination for color variation kind of goes wild. Right now I'm anxiously awaiting the hatch of my spangled EE/Buff Barred NN egg to hatch. I also just sold a few hatching eggs from the same mating pair to a young man who lives nearby, along with other NN hatching eggs. They truly are addicting!

I'm also awaiting the hatch of some Dark Cornish mixes that I plan to eventually cross with my NN meat birds in the hopes of improving musculature, size and growth rates. Seriously, this has got to be the breed that's the most fun to play around with. Enjoy!

Like a fool, I took another look at those S&G birds and that was a mistake but not what you might think. I mentioned them to Ariel and found that she and Rafael have been talking about getting the Rainbows FOR ME since my desire for Bielefelders has been shot down due to fears of infertility.

My interest in the Biels was size (meat) and not so much the eggs so the Rainbows might be a good option...the plan was to cross them with White Chanteclers and....everything else that walks around here. But I really don't wan't 50 Rainbows walking around here, not now. I might see if they will split up orders, like 50 NNs and 50 Rainbows, whereby Ariel could get 50 of each and so could we. It's a thought.

Things were going far too easily around here. The last time 'chicken math' afflicted me was when dad sent 25 or 26 NN hens, I think just to get rid of them. I've since taken most of them back and returned alas with some of their offspring.

I'm doomed.

All of us chicken lovers are doomed! At least we're all in good company.

I actually hadn't checked out the Rainbows before. The roosters especially do strongly resemble the Biels. Interesting....

Ha ha, yes we are all doomed.

I think sometimes that Ill get rid of my birds so I can be freed up to do other things. Then I talk myself out of getting rid of them.

I've looked at the Golden Nuggets from S & G along with the Naked Necks. I just don't need that many chicks at once. Id like to have about 10 pullets of each of them the Golden Nuggets and the Naked Necks. That will help add size to the current flock.
