Naked Neck/Turken Thread

The deed has been done now..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I put exactly 100 eggs in the incubator.

I'm super bummed. About 1.5 weeks ago my daughter stepped on Wookie, resulting in almost immediate symptoms of wry neck. She's not recovering despite treatment and I will likely have to euthanize her.

To make things worse, BAM was fluffed up and standing in the center of the feedpan without eating this morning. Her eyes were bright and alert. I moved her into isolation with Wookie. Unfortunately BAM passed sometime during the day.

On the upside, I have 8 NN pullets and 4 cockerels coming in April.

Oh, that stinks.

Sexed chicks coming? Smart - did some close looking tonight, and I'm almost certain that my last hatch of 10 NNs (Tank x GNH) has apparently turned up one little girl and 9 very rambunctious boys. I have no alternative but to set more eggs from Tank's coop, probably tomorrow.

Yep, 4 girls from Cackle and the others from Ideal. They'll be getting crossed with my Jubilee English Orps and some Speckled Sussex (also coming from Cackle). The goal is BBS Red/Buff Mille Fleurs. I've just discovered that one of my BLRW pullets is in fact not a pullet so there might be a BLR NN project....

That's "too bad" that you have to set more eggs.

Before you know it you'll be getting another incubator.

I already have another incubator... :hide

Actually, right now I'm doing mental math - I may not be able to set, because of brooder and grout space considerations (I have other chicks coming, too). Dilemma...

Oh logistics, thou art a b***.

I have to get some brooders built before April when I have 50-something chicks and ducklings coming. I'm thinking a 4'x4'x1' and a 4'x8'x2'. Chicks would go in the smaller until 2 weeks old and then the larger until 4-6 weeks.
