Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'm slowly losing control of which hen is the mother of which chicks that are hatched.

I guess I'm going to have to start making my roosters and keeping up with them that way instead of by hen family.

Naming chickens is not really my thing, except for one and that really started out as a joke "play on the song" Mr. Bo Jangles. I called him Mr. Bo Soangkes and it kind of stuck. Then now that I have a NN son of his I call him Junior.

Here is my newest addition ivanka trump! Lol I had to get rid of my chickens when my grandma got cancer and I had to take care of her. I missed my naked necks so much. I had five come in and I have 8 more coming next week!

So glad you've been able to get some more.

Fresh out of the eggs all dried and mostly fluffy the two NN and the two honorary nn, They are all Stripey Butt's offspring so all Sc carriers, but none are from the CX girls I was trying for

The more I see these black down chicks, the more I lust. Holy cow I need to find someone to get eggs from "soon." I mean, as soon as I can get the almost 5 week olds I have to be outside all the time. Actually, when the carport coop gets finished and I can work on integrating the littles with the bigs. I need some NN so bad.

Love all the baby pics! I have pics of my own - 3 week weigh in for the Tank x GNH crosses. Almost all of the boys outweigh their father at the same age (and their father was startlingly heavier than all other chicks). Tank is not enormous as an adult (about 8 lbs) - he plateaued at around 10-12 weeks. I don't know if something went wrong for him then temporarily, or if that's just his genetics (grow fast, but not big). Nothing really worth graphing yet - I'll do that next week. But Tank weighed 10.32oz at 3 weeks (several ounces heavier than all the rest). His sons weigh from 10.41 to 11.85 oz at 3 weeks, except one smaller boy at 9.59. I MIGHT have three pullets (which is PERFECT - the exact number I'd want to line breed them back to Dad) - they weigh 7.48 (that little one), 8.82, and a possible one at 9.74 (not sure).

Forgive the photo overload:

01-Second heaviest boy (11.71oz)

02-

03-Heaviest boy (11.85oz):

03, take 2 - Heaviest boy, again:

04-

04 take 2:

05-

06- Here's the "little" boy (9.59oz):

07- This is one that I thought was a boy, but then wondered if it was a girl. I change my mind every day. (9.74oz)

08 - also think this is a pullet (8.82 oz)

09 - the little PeeWee pullet (7.48oz)

10-

Such a wonderful crop of mini-Tanks! I wish I had more space, I was planning out growout and living/breeding groups last night. It's going to be a busy and somewhat tight year. (But I have some plans to clear some additional "wild" areas of the yard which would allow more forage space.) But I'm pleased enough that I may keep the biggest boy (hadn't been planning on it, but he's a bigun!)

For reference, here is Tank's baby photo at the same age (3 weeks).

(BTW - who do y'all set up your photo stations? This box I'm using isn't really working well...)

I wish I could tell you more, maybe I am wrong, but these don't look pullet-ish to me. Something about theit tails and feathering makes ke think like that. Hope I'm wrong

Quote: Some of it comes form comparing them to each other as well. And I'm making calls pretty early (though to be fair, you can tell that many of the boys are certainly declaring themselves early). But at a minimum, #9 is definitely a pullet. I posed #8 earlier, I think we think she is a pullet from her comb appearance - I'm keeping my fingers crossed. (Her lower weight also goes with that - I've found weight to differentiate them early in NNs). As for #7, that's just me being hopeful.

Here are the photos of the biggest boy, #3, vs. #8 that I took earlier - I think they show the differences better.
