Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I just wanted to mention, we are close to hitting 20k posts on this thread!

Quick update on the birds... They moved into a new pen today, I'm preparing for my hatch of 193 (out of 205 set)... I'm a little freaked out that they will all be viable! We'll make it work. They should hatch on the 24th-25th.

Naked Necks are looking good, albeit smaller then the rest of my hatch. The Delaware is really coming through on them. Out of the 7 we had, I'll keep at least 3 and see how they grow out.

This last one looks mostly heterozygous... It had 2 small symmetrical feathers, but someone else decided to 'clean' em up!

Chicks come soon! Set up 2 nipple Waterers for them

Are they all delaware crosses? How do their Nn parents look?

After looking through my SOP I would say that a couple of breeds that have some similarities in type to the NN's are Chanteclers and Sussex. Some of the key features (besides the naked neck) are the very long, flat back with a fairly low tail carriage (20 degrees) and the great depth of body in the rear. To my eye they have a rather triangular shape that's pretty unique to their breed.

Nice finds! and thanks for looking. Those are great pics for showing the long backs and tail angles too..

Pardon the cross post from the Breeding for Production thread, sharing the latest weights and photos of my NN x GNH crosses. The two biggest boys are over 2 lbs at 6 weeks, and they're all little bricks when picking them up. The graph shows the boys in orange, the girls in purple, and Tank (father, largest NN in his own cohort) is in blue (meaning his weights at the same age). They are all feathering out so nicely - Tank has turned out to be a wonderful choice for this cross. The only real difference so far between them is that some have yellow legs and some have white legs (Tank has white legs and the GNHs have yellow, so Tank must be heterozygous). I'm thinking of keeping the two biggest boys - one has white legs, one has yellow.

Loving these chicks!!!! (They head outside soon - hopefully this weekend.)

Some 3 week shots of the stinky doos.

They are still being brooded inside so they have been completely off heat for a week or so now. I will be moving them to the garage soon so they may go back on night heat for a few days to adjust when I move them.

@Fire Ant Farm Loving these birds as well! So nice to weigh them and get some real metrics! Smart!

@Kassaundra Those birds are looking AWESOME! Progressing nicely!

I went into lockdown with 193 eggs today. I've never hatched this many at once, wish me luck!
