Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I have 6 chicks, one feather necked, one naked and 4 NN. But 2 are still in jeopardy when I'm sure who is going to live I'll take some pics.

Sending hopeful thoughts.

@Kassaundra, I've never seen a naked chicken. Really cool. I admit I've only browsed a few pages of this thread. Is this something you've bred for? ...just happens sometimes with NNs?

NN was one of my first chickens as a child. Always been attracted to them for some reason..lol

My flock happen to be genetically naked necks, however the Sc (scaleless) gene has nothing to do w/ Na (naked neck) gene. The Sc gene can be in any breed of chicken and will make them just as featherless. It is a rare gene, and is recessive so takes a double hit to show featherless and scaleless.

Wow! do you think that one is going to take any special care? I know with the hairless cats and dogs they need regular baths because they get problems with clogged pores and other skin diseases. What are you going to do with that one?

I have had them in my flock for several years now. No bathing required, but they need clothes in the late fall, winter and early spring.

Holy wow! Ya learn something new everyday. That is the coolest, strangest, ugliest and cutest thing at the same time! Do you have any pictures of your scaleless(?) adults? That would make one heck of a gene to throw at meat birds... lol! But if I raised it from that size it would probably end up on a leash... going everywhere with me.
