Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Happy New Year from me too.

Polish X NN sounds very interesting.

My cockerel, Mort, is just going through puberty and is trying to mate with everything that moves. He also crows and struts in front of the Brahma boys....and has stimulated them to start crowing at all hours of the day and night. I have 9 Brahma hens and he has grabbed every one of them apart from Mrs Grey (who is a GIANT of a hen). Naked neck and feathery legs also sounds rather funky.

My testosterone-troubled Mort has also grabbed my Blue Partridge Brahma cockerel who squawked as though he were being throttled, but he met his match with a senile, crusty and half-bald (in her case back and wings) Warren. She screamed and pecked viciously at his eyes and baldy neck. Huge Dark Brahma rooster then chased him away. My largest male, Whitey (about a stone of overgrown Blue Splash Brahma) just looks at him or takes a few goose steps towards Mort and he disappears in a cloud of dust (or frozen sludge as it is now).

Mort is certainly trying to be a super stud....

here is my next breeder, what yo guys think? got to think of a name.........

That roo is too perfect Nava!! So, if I get this right, if you bred him with another true NN they'd all have equally naked necks. . . or would they still have some of the neck feathers?

Are your birds personalities easy going Nava? Are they bred from Australorps? I really like the dark eye.

The only guy I can think of right now with a skinny neck is Snoop Dogg

I wouldn't do that to that poor roo!!!

well, I got him an another pullet fully Naked Neck, and those are my first 2 that I've gotten so far, so this Spring I'm going to pair them up and Hope for 100% Naked Necks, they should be laying by March, I got 9 pullets and 6 cockerels same age.

My Naked Necks personalities, are awesome and I'm not just saying , these chickens are the best, they have the Orps personalities they were breed from them.

Snoop?? what are you trying to do to my Beautiful NN ...

How many chickens do you have Nava? Must have been an all day event! Glad your birds passed . . . wouldn't want any of those naked necks laying on the chopping block!

Congratulations!!

Anyone cross a showgirl back to naked neck? I know that to create a showgirl a silkie is crossed with naked neck and back to silkie. What about the other way? I've read that black skin is sexlinked and dominant. If you cross a silke rooster with a homozygous NN hen all pullets from this cross will have black skin and naked necks. I might try this someday.

but they only tested 1 from each pen a total of 10 birds, including the ones that I'm going to show this weekend.

Hi! I don't think black skin gene is sex-linked. I have LF black skin birds that started with a [Silkie x Naked Neck] cross. I tend to go about things butt-backwards and had no knowledge of the genetics involved when I started breeding.
Congratulations on your NPIP certification, Nava.
...but they only tested 1 from each pen a total of 10 birds,...

That's good to know. The logistics of testing every individual bird is staggering.
Good luck at the show this weekend. You must show them off here!
