I have an idea! Cross NN with brahmas!

in seriousness, it is easy to breed NN with feather legs. Mind you, leg feather tends to be on sparse side in first cross but if you breed back to a brahma or with each other, you will get some NN with decent or good leg feathering.

They could also turn out to be bigggg birds...

I DID!!! (although I'm nowhere near Florida... just wanted to show my cute boy off)

I need to get some more updated pictures, he's about 6 weeks old now.

Mmmmm, mottled Naked Necks!

The Brahma x Naked Neck is going to be stunning!

I've got the first chick from this blue melanotic girl in the hatcher this morning. She's still running in the 'big pen', but I caught her laying and her egg is a pretty blue (and HAD to set it).
The chick looks black as a spade --- black skin, black down.
If the chick is as black as it looks, this black NN roo has to be the father (the other mating age roo in that pen was a splash).

I'm just itching to get in there and check, but hatch isn't done yet.

Oh, just to say guys, my chooks have already had the idea of NN X Brahma.

My Blue Partridge boy, shown here a few months ago has been vigorously treading my Naked Neck girls for some days. No idea what the offspring would look like , but I might just see. And he has green eyes.

Cute chicks, superchemicalgirl. How are the NNs fareing in Maine? As cold as it is here (about 5 degrees this morning--have no idea how cold overnight), it has to be colder there. I'd feel sorry for them and worry if I had them. Do you knit them neck warmers?

Hi, My NN girls are black as soot....one with a totally bare neck, the other with a small bow tie.
The cockerel is an adolescent who has just discovered testosterone and is treading everything (thankfully he is now grabbing the NN's by the feathers on their head instead of trying to grasp the bare neck). The NN girls are pullets who have just started to lay, so I'll leave it a few weeks and then pop them in the incubator.
the Red Pyle/Splash rooster should produce some interesting offspring with them, but he is huge ....14lbs plus....so poultry saddles out once he wakes up from his winter slumbers.
