your NN cockerel. He's just perfect! What kind of fantabulous show name have you given him?

ETA: Just took this morning of my little NN cockerel. When do they have a growth spurt? He's still barely bigger than my D'Uccles.

So my little cockerel is about 11 weeks old. I have him in the garage where temps got down to 42. The coop was 32 this morning. SO, when should I move him out there?
Should I wait until the inside coop temp is also 42? I've been putting him out there in the day when the temps are at least 50.

I threw 4 seven-week old naked necks into my coop from the basement (which is about 65 degrees) and they're all fine. It is 20 outside today and was 32 yesterday. Nights have been around 10 to 20. Coop is insulated but not heated. And all the windows and vents are open. The coop stays about 10 degrees warmer than the outside temperature.

Nava- how did the show go?

KKH-He probably can stay in the coop from now on.. but if below freezing night is forecast within the week or 2, would bring him in for the night just to be on the safe side. Past 2 weeks of being in the coop he should be completely acclimated. His brothers/sisters have been outside already but then it's much warmer/milder here- days high 70/low 80s nights were mid 40s when I moved them out.. currently going thru a chill, last night it went down to 33 & it's 50 as I write this.

As for growth, should start seeing one soon if not already. Looks like his body had filled out some. His grandfather was very, very small, several of his(your boy) aunts/uncles/potential parents were smallish. If he's going to be on the smaller side, might be just about the size of your bantam hen(she was one of the biggest ones) when fully grown.

My original Naked Neck, Morticia. She will be three soon.

She lives in the EE pen, and has a blue NN/EE daughter, who has produced several NN/EE babies this past month.

well, NN cockerel did nothing, I asked the judge what it was that he had seen and he said that it was a broken feather and he could not remember the rest couse I got to talk to him on Sunday.

Anconas placed BV-BB and RV

splash pullets did nothing either, I also asked and wast told that " their type was better than the other hens but, they would never beat a blue, no matter what " so next time I know not to take any splash.

and there was no other NN's I even asked about a NN club and they could not find anything , is the NN club gone?

Hello All, last summer I took in a few hens from a lady that had to many. She had also had a very aggressive rooster that had taken a large amount of feathers off most of her girls. I took in a BR, RIR, and what I was told was a BO. Well as everyones feathers began to grow back, it quickly became apparent that I did not have a BO but rather a Buff Naked Neck. Well this big girl that we affectionately call Neck has become one of my favorite girls and she lays some of the biggest eggs I've ever seen. I would love to add a few more but am having a hard time finding any near me. Does anybody know of anyone in the West Michigan area that breeds, sells, etc. this wonderful breed of chicken? Thanks in advance to my fellow BYC members for any help.
