Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Mom is a brown leghorn. Imagine my surprise when I found her sitting on 18 eggs in the top level of our barn! LOL

She stuck with it and is actually being a great Mom. I would never have thought a Leghorn would go broody!

Think it depends on the line, I've had some lines(not tiny or skinny) that laid very small eggs and extremely tiny day olds, other lines laid eggs 'expected for their size'(not small not big), some lines laid a very big egg considering their size. One line laid eggs close to store size eggs, only narrower.

Banjoejoe, you been hiding out on us? What other naked necks do you have? Those are nice looking bantams, are they show stock breeders?

I have a question for the NN experts. It is my understanding that NN's are a mix like EE's and people mix all kinds of other chickens w/ the NN to get all kinds of versions on chickens w/ naked necks, like people do w/ EE's for colored egg laying chickens w/ all kinds of other characteristics. (if I am wrong about that I'm sorry my intent isn't to offend anyone w/ NN chickens) So my question is what is the breed that puts the naked in the chickens? (like ameraucana puts the colored egg gene in all the mixes)

Here are the babies that hatched 6/3 .
These are NN/Dels

All 18 of the babies are so cute, but I love my NN.

Hello Kassaundra, although NN are bred to many different breeds to attain interesting crossbreeds, they are a breed by themselves. I do not have time to find a link but they were developed to create a chicken with much less feathers which is tolerant of various temperatures. And at the same time are good layers and serve up well for dinner. I do not remember the date of their recognition but they have nice mellow personalities similar to the EE.

Sorry for the horrible pics, but these guys didn't want to go in the run today with the heat so they stayed in the barn.

I am posting this here since everyone's familiar with NN chickies!

These are for sure roos, right? I need to rehome all but one NN roo - unfortunately it seems I only hatched out three ladies.

They are almost 10 weeks old.

Center chicken - I think the other three in the pic are pullets. He has a huge comb and wattles that are usually pink, but go red at times.

This last one I'm pretty sure about, even with the skinny legs.

Again, these are just under 10 weeks. They all looked like girls at 6 weeks, but...
