Yes! Beautiful!
Who is the black and white furry one peeking out? Looks very much like my Darby (except Darbles has speckley feet)!

Lisa

Lisa, the speckly snout is Jared , Border Collie.....chickens sleep with him at night, go broody on his bed etc....he's a real chicken dog!

You lucked big time on the lafleches- one boy and 3 girls. Really looking forward to your cross chicks with these!

Blondie getting that color on his shoulders is proof he has the dominant kind of white. Further proof Yellow Peril or Warren being a parent. If you bred him with the lafleches or solid black NN, half of the chicks will turn out white, including some that might stay solid white. Dominant white is much better at covering up black than brown/gold pigments (in other words a solid white chicken is a solid black chicken).

How did you get so lucky with Jared? Is Darby good with the birds too? My friend has border collies, theirs are not good with other animals, the female goes after anything not confined with a frightening amount of um, "passion".

Hi ! Darby is 'Guardian of All Creatures' feathered or furred (except WoodDucks --- she doesn't like Wood ducklings).
She is in my shadow most of the time, and a carpet hound the rest of the time. She sleeps inside at night, but on the back of a couch at a window facing the chicken yards, and 'on guard' . I could go on and on, but in short, she's fabulous.
She is on top of things when chicks are hatching --- and watches for every new chick that hatches in there (sometimes I have to cover the window because she gets so excited).

And has her face in the incubator when I turn eggs.
One time, I had moved a bunch of Day 18 eggs to the hatcher and she kept going back to the incubator and pawing and whining --- there was still another doz Day 18 eggs that needed to be moved to hatcher.

Lisa, Kev, Jared is an amazing sweetheart. He was the unwanted runt of a litter (weighing 3 lbs whilst the others were 10 plus), so we HAD to have him. He's the male equivalent of Darby.....and is wonderful around all animals, including our cats, chickens, sheep etc. He also loves people, particularly children, but hates crows and squirrels . Pity there's a lot of water between or we should breed them Lisa...oh and poor Jared only has one testicle, the other was undescended and cost a small fortune to be removed to prevent it potentially becoming cancerous. Darby looks in lovely condition.

Jared last year with broody Brahma

He likes sheep, and comes from excellent working stock, but has never been trained.

So, back to chickens....I'm very grateful for the genetic advice, Kev, and am amazed at your memory for these things and the names of our birds! I was VERY lucky with the La Flèche....there's another pullet out of sight, and the incubator lead was out for 24 hours day 7 with night temps in the 40's. The girls have nice little 'horns', too.(It made up for several zero fertility hatches and YP sold to me as a 'Naked Neck' egg....the only one of six that hatched.....oh and my 9 out of 11 cockerel hatch).

I'll breed from Blondie next year.He has a very 'game like' look about him particularly when he runs.

Well that one chick didn't make it

but I've got more eggs that I saved from my black maran copper hen before I gave them to that guy

just in case I changed my other mind and I did. Just put in the three that have been sitting. I need to candle the other one and see how it's developing.
