So...I call these grey....some call them blue.

What if I breed the two (totally unrelated) birds on the left? They both have large bow ties (i.e they are Naked Neck crosses), so I'd expect I could get offspring with fully feathered necks (the 1:2:1 ratio of fully feathered, bow tie, no feathers). The hen had a black NN with no neck

feathers for a mum and a Blue Partridge Brahma for a dad, whilst the little rooster has unknown parentage.

Flower...I think you may be seeing mutations or 'throwbacks'. With chickens there always seem to be some characteristics which show up which shouldn't have happened if the genetics were what we expected.

Good morning All; Sorry for your loss flower. It's so hard when you have to do it. My husband just put down my golden comet 2 days ago.She was one of my original girls I started with. She was the most gentle little thing ; too sad.


Kev where are you so you can set us straight on the dark/light skin thing. You really can't get a feel for her green iridescence but this is my rumpless little girl that just started laying 3 days ago. Small little pink eggs.Her name is Beaky after the Bugs Bunny buzzard. She thinks she is a mountain goat ;she jumps up onto everything.I'll try to get a more recent picture of her She is really beautiful.

I learned a helpful fact on the SILKIE MIXES thread. The chicks from black skinned roosters mixed with light skinned result in black skinned females and lighter skinned males. The chicks from light skinned rooster and black skinned hens have the opposite, black skinned males and lighter skinned females. This is very helpful in a F1 flock.

I read that before too, but found it not to be true here.

PG, He looks splash and she looks blue, so you *should* get blues and splashes. (the 1:2:1 ratio of fully feathered, bow tie, no feathers), yes.

Pretty girl! I had a turken girl that was a climber also. I called her my circus chicken because it looked like she was practicing tightrope acts for the circus. LOL I lost her a few months ago and I have no idea why except possibly her molt was too hard on her. No other symptoms and she was molting at the time. I sure miss that girl!
