I thought it was females that get the spot since male chicks looks are controlled by the mother's genes.Black Sex Link and Black Star mean the same thing. They are just different trade names. Crossing a barred rooster with a solid hen yields chicks that are sexable at hatch (hence black sex link). This causes the males to have a white spot on their head and they can be separated from the females. They lay brown eggs almost every day and are very friendly. As with any hybrid, problems relating to egg production can arise when they get older.
