he could be a magie pie call cross, but was a runt of the hatch... maybe that's how he retained his bill size, but body size is so small.

I know exactly what you mean-I have been trying to show a picture of one of my Calls to a friend of mine and their size/bill size just DOES NOT read well on a picture.
Honestly, the only way I think you can really tell how small a Call is is to take a picture of them next to something to show their size(even then it's not all that reliable).
I think Magpie Calls are beautiful-had to almost smash my fingers with a hammer last night to keep from buying a pair off of the internet!
